Playing on expert. What a wonderful mission--so big and detailed. I played a long time before I got into the mansion. I have covered the mansion pretty well but have not found the other key to the vault. I have the captain's key and thought the other would be in the master bedroom but it is not in the chest. Those beams above the vault are enticing, but I doubt I can get in that way. I am having trouble getting up there--any reason to try? And where's the key?:)
Later---I got up on the beams, so answered that question.:cheeky:

Have you tried picking the other lock? I'm pretty sure that you only have to have one key to get into the vault. I can't swear that this is correct, but I THINK it is. Give it a try and let me know.

Nightwalker, you are right. The lockpicks do work. You mean there isn't another key, after we have been led to believe there is? :( I was sure I needed the key and didn't even think of trying the lockpicks.

I'm pretty sure the key does exist, but you don't need to find it. I can't remember where it was, exactly, on every difficulty setting. I think it was in the Master bedroom on Normal, but things often move around on other difficulties. I DO remember Randy saying, when I was betatesting, how much trouble he went to, to make it possible to pick the lock from up above, which is why it stuck in my mind. :)

SPOILERS...
I also spent much time trying to find the second key. Thought it should be in the master bedroom, but it wasn't. Finally, I took my chance and went to the vault via the hidden door, onto the wooden beams and dropped on moss. The second lock yielded to the lockpicks.
It is very satisfying breaking into the vault like that, with them guards having their backs to you, unaware of what is going on :)
This is playing on Hard.
Later, I also liked the way the author allowed for getting Cudget out onto the streets. I was thinking how the heck do I get him out without having to battle my way out with all those guards? Via the window I had gotten into? No way. Then I remembered what the guy in black had said, and he was true to his words.
Lovely mission. I'm now trying to find my way back to the apartment with Cudget.

That's an interesting strategy. I had to try it out. I just dumped Cudget in his own bed and am out to find Lorgan. I think I know where he is and I hope he still has some of that money he was paid since I am a bit short of loot. I may have to go back and crash that party to get some more.:cheeky:

Finished!! I had a bit of a problem finding Lorgan and a couple of lookalike fellows have sore heads. Also had a bit of trouble identifying the North Gate till I saw Cudget--handy fellow with a sword-- but found plenty of loot. All in all, a great mission!:)

This is one of my favorite Thief gold FM's. There were some surprises in it. Loved the guards fighting the Burricks! Great FM, worthy of a replay.:thumb:

There were so many things you had to like in this mission. Cudget waiting for you at the gate and then killing the guard chasing you, the thief in the other cell (poor fellow died). the madam telling you to help yourself and telling others that Garrett likes to pretend he is a thief, interesting mansion and secret passageways--just beautifully designed! The only thing I missed is the sewer and spiders. Where do I enter? I tried the latrines.:wot:
LATER--I went back to a previous save, came to the north gate from the other direction and watched Cudget arrive, take out all the guards and open the gate. Fascinating!!:thumb:
LATER STILL--I did find a sewer entrance near the burricks. I left the spiders alone though. :eek: I went back towards the riverfront and met Cudget working his way toward the north gate and followed him and stayed behind him as he took out all the guards. Amazing!:)
