Hello everyone,
I recently started playing Thief - Deadly Shadows, and found it a great game, but I wanted to know the history behind the game. I was lucky to buy a copy of T1 and T2 (SoldOut range). I was able to install the games without any problems. I was just wondering what patches/updates/mods/etc. I should install before I start playing.
Thanx!

When you're done, make sure you come over to the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?daysprune=30&forumid=100) Fan Mission Forum to find out how to play all the hundreds of fan made missions that are available. I think at last count there were almost 600 and more are showing up every day. Most are for T1 & T2 but the T3 FMs are starting to roll out too.

Other than the official patches, there really aren't any common modifications.
(

(dangit, all the links on that page are broken. where is it hosted these days?)

I wasn't going to suggest that, because I think that for a first-timer, Thief should be experienced as-is.

Well that's not what you said though-- It's most certainly a common modification. And one which does nothing but good for the graphics.

Thief one's grainy textures are part of the atmosphere. I think the texture patch makes it worse in this aspect.
He COULD install it, but that doesn't mean he should.

Really? I didn't find it hurt the games atmosphere. Most of the upgraded textures were just higher res versions of the originals...and in some cases a similar style, so it didn't change the game much.

But in some cases it just lost it. In Assassins for example.
