I finished the mission yesterday, with ~5000 loot, so there is still a lot to find on a next play-through. It was great, and I especially liked that the portrayal of Elisabeth was historically accurate (as accurate as we could infer from historical records, anyway). There was one objective I couldn't complete, stopping the torture. I really wanted to, because it was gruesome and horrific... a sense very hard to accomplish with dromed. Excellent use of the zombie models. :erg: For some reason, when I finished the ouroboros objective and found the loot in the hidden room, the torture objective just disappeared, so I quietly went back to my cell and left those unfortunates to their fate.

Finished without 1 secret, and about 1000 loot. Now I understand the earlier comparisons to Christine's FMs. This is a really spectacular mansion, with great architecture and atmosphere - or should it be atmos-fear?

This purpose of this post is to describe my enjoyment of the mission. If any of the comments doesn´t seem like that, it´s just me trying to be funny.
The first try
"Oh, I can mantle up on my bed and check the guards and surroundings outside the cell. Cool!"
"Good cleric, nice to see someone is on my side."
"Ha! What a devious little sneak I am! Looted that room with no problems. See you later, guys."
"This key I found probably opens this door. Yep. Guard in corridor. Let´s follow him for a while. Hmm, can´t find any place to step aside so I can get past him on his way back. This door? Nope, locked, and my 'lockpick' doesn´t work. Where is the key I used earlier? Dammit, it´s not around anymore! Ah, it must have been removed."
"OK, next door. This one I can pick, but here comes Mr. Guard again! That corner looks dark. Crouch here. Please don´t see me, please don´t see me..."
"Oh no, he saw me!"
*BIFF* "Ahhh!!!"
One hit was enough. Guess Elizabeth is rather frail...
Crap...
Damn, you devious creator, making that corner a death-trap...:nono:
Second try
"OK, this time I´ll pick that second door right away." Nice and dark little room. A little loot and..."Ha, now I´m armed and dangerous!"
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..."
*CLANG!*
Oh crap...
Frantic run back, run past the guard, run back into the dark room. "Maybe he can´t reach me if I stand on the table!"
"Oh no, he also got up on the table! Back off, run out, run towards new territory. Oh, a statuette on the windowsill!" *Grab*
(can´t believe I saw that one with a guard hot on my heels!) :cheeky:
"On no, marble floors and I see another guard ahead" This is bad...
"Now I know! I need to get back on my bed in the cell. There I´ll be safe"
Run past the chasing guard again.
*BIFF!*
Oops, he got me. Again.
Damn, you devious creator, making that walking stick such a death-trap...:nono:
Third try
Now, this is getting annoying.
Same stuff up to that room with the walking stick. Also checked the next room, then the hallway with a big statue of Anna Bathory. Huh?
Found a nice dark niche in the corridor ahead. "Hmm, this guard does not look like the other one. Can I whack him, then? No sense putting a useless stick in the game, eh?"
Ah, got that guard. Then I checked the stash under the stairs I had read about, plus the next room. A silver dagger! Hmm, will there be vampires in this mission, too?
The briefing/readme said something about 'Elizabeth not having the fighting abilities Gellert has'.
OK, does that mean she won´t be any good with this dagger? Let´s try to get get revenge on that annoying guard!
"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..."
Yes, she´s as deadly as anyone! But the chainmail apparently added too much weight to the guard for her to be able to lift the body.
OK, now I know how this works. This night is NOT going to be pretty (big evil grin on my face) :ebil:
(Picture Elizabeth with a slightly bloodstained dress, with the silver dagger in a 'Psycho' pose...)
Now, I am not against ghosting. I even enjoy it from time to time. But that is usually when I know the area, and where everything is. I am terrible at finding stuff if I need to be wary of enemies all the time.
So that is how I preceeded. Archers and lightly armored guys - walking stick. Chainmail dudes - backstab.
One thing of note during my playing - I used a very low gamma setting. It wasn´t intentional, really. Very often, I had to let my eyes adapt to the darkness to see anything. This added a bit to the suspense and creepiness. An example of how the lack of good light affected gameplay:
At the place in the attic with three archers, a ramp and a ladder, I realized I should take out the upper archer first. How to get to him? I spotted the ladder only by seeing the two little ends sticking up at the top (seen against the brighter back part of the room). I could not see it on the wall. I located it by hugging the wall and seeing where I stopped because I bumped into the ladder. I mossed the floor here (in case I would be in the wrong spot) and jumped 'blindly' to the ladder (yes, I need to jump to ladders, I prefer that setting).
With this lighting setting, I ended up with 4750 loot, and the Ouroboros objective unchecked. I decided to finally raise the gamma, and found out I had missed the following, mostly because of the bad lighting:
- ring in theater audience area
- pen holder in Knight´s Hall
- Secret with gem in fountain room (with this, I now had the loot objective fulfilled)
- both things in the two dark rooms with stored furniture: the goblet and the chest with a healing potion. That´s right, it was so dark I didn´t even see the chest!
- water arrow in the first room I looted
- The lever that had dropped to the ground. You know, I was firmly convinced I had to find a lever somewhere, and that this passage would lead me to the Ouroboros. That is, until I found the next thing:
- The lock on the wall in the receiving room study. This lead me to some serious poking around in here, which in turn led me to the Ouroboros scheme, and eventually to solving the whole thing.
Despite quite some effort, I ended up with 7000 loot. Turns out I had missed:
- the tiny ring next to Rozi
- the necklace on the floor near the staircase leading to the library
- the spectacles by the man who froze to death

Great mission Sensut! Looking forward to the next installment.
One question though, there was a full length mirror in one of the bedrooms that really appeared that it could be a doorway. Is it? If so, how do you open it?
Gloria Creep on 21/12/2007 at 02:28
Oneof4: I had the same problem. I was a tester and looked EVERYWHERE for a secret button, but: It's just is a mirror. I also mentioned it to Sensut and he agreed: perhaps in another level he'll make use of it :ebil:
Jiansonz: I recognize this ...!!!hehehe.
