Yes, that was strange.
The altar rose up, spiders appeared, I jumped into the water... then the altar descended back down and closed me in.
Since I hadn't played this FM for awhile, I didn't realize this was a bug. I thought there might be another exit somewhere, so went on playing. Good thing I still had that save game position. Now, time to face the Bone King...

You don't need to fight him!
Don't put out all the candles.
First, huge thanks, The_Dude, this is one of the all time great FMs for detailed objects, secrets, and "stuff to do". Fantastic work! :thumb:
Now, my problem. I've read most of this thread, though rather quickly, so I apologize if this has been asked.
I entered the crypts by
quickly sneaking through the gate when the key-carrying skeleton came after me (NOT by picking the key from him, then using it on the lock). So, shortly after I got through, the gate closed behind me. Now, after I've killed everything in the crypts and (I think) opened/explored everything down there, I can't reach the lock with the keyring in order to unlock/open the lockbox outside the gate. I believe I need to go back through the water to the main church area to complete the misssion. At least to place the 2nd candle on St. Catherine's plate anyway. But, it took all my save slots to progress through the crypts, and I now have no saves prior to the crypts past the gate. Do I need to start over, or is there a way to open the gate, or is there another way out?
Please help!

Hi Folks,
I hope one of you can help me. I've got 2 problems:
1/ I cant find the second candle, it's supposed to be
behind a sarcophogus in the crypt...which crypt?
2/ how do I get onto the roof to get up the outside of the bell tower? Perhaps I need wings:angel:
Many thanks in advance.

lostinthedark:
The two questions are related. You need to find the secret crypt. Start your search in the private prayers room, some fire might help.
bassmanret:
IIRC there is no other way out, unless you have placed the candle on St. Catherine's plate. So I'm afraid you'll have to start over.

Thanks SinisterShadow! Starting over is still better than continuing the doomed search for something that doesn't exist. :)

Excellent mission. Lots of fun. Using the key chain with the number of keys needed was a great idea. I never did find the last key, but maybe next time. The magically appearing AI scared the crap out of me several times, but it was good. Thanks for a very enjoyable mission. I can't wait for part 2!

I have to say that this WAS a good mission. That is until Capt Manwaring and Sgt Wilson both vanished on me. I never got their keys, so I never got in their rooms, so I never got a sword, so I can't cut down banners, and I can't finish the mission.
I'm actually upset with this. I decided not to bother with doing this game again.
I never opened the safe, where that key may have been.
Also, my Dromed doesn't work. Can't seem to get it to work at all. Gives me some error when I run it, so I can't even modify things or move AI.
I wasted a good 4 hours trying to play this. What a disappointment.

There is a bug which involves Sergeant Wilson getting stuck on his desk for some reason but you should be able to amend things in Dromed to resolve the problem. If you can't get Dromed to run then I suggest you post more detail in the Editors Guild to find out why.
As far as I am aware there is no bug involving Captain Mainwaring so you have probably not fulfilled the criteria needed to get him to appear. I suggest you post again and tell us what you have done so I can tell you what you are missing. You need to pick up four items for him to appear
(two diaries and two items).
It's a shame you have decided to abandon it (it should only take you about half an hour to get back to where you were before), because you have a long way to go. Anyway that is your decision.
You should btw moderate your comments a little when discussing author's work. Designing and releasing a complex mission like this takes a lot of time and effort and although constructive criticism is always welcome, unjustified and derogatory statements are not.

After reading someone's post about fire behind the altar, I decided to toss a flare. I got into the crypt. I have just put the 2nd candle. Not sure what's going to happen next. Gonna run around and see if anything comes out.
When running dromed, the exact error says:
"Cannot find GUI font (File: uigame.cpp, Line: 59) (Yes to trap, No to exit, Cancel to ignore)"
If I choose to ignore, it tries to open, then gives me the MS error that it needs to close and if I'd like to report the problem.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be happy. :)
BTW, I'm alot further than 1/2 hour into the game. I just hate restarting missions. :(
