Maybe. . but how would my Thief 2 or Darkloader programs be corrupted when all the other FMs work just fine?
yep, i understand you, the "exacly" thing happend to me in Unreal Tournamet Thievery, i can play Unreal T99 with some mods, but when i try to plat it with Thievery, the errors message coming, & it cant start.
I think, this thisng probably happend in 5 % :P of the cases of all the fan missions/mods made for many games, another example in my Pc:
i cant play Daikatana in my pc again having winds xp & having a nvidia tnt (32 mb) model 64 because it is not compatible the video card driver with the video driver of the game (only opengl), but i remeber in the old times i played it as well that game with the same pc before without changing anything! :eww:
can you run it in another computer?

Er. . well, I'll try to download it again, but if that doesn't work I'll try the cmd ping suggestion. *sigh* I've just been getting so much thief/fm related trouble these days. . I wish I'd remembered to back up my old files after the harddrive crash. >_<

Do you use any download managers? They are programmed to compensate for error on transmission breaks. I downloaded ANIR3 from all the links I found it on at once (was four or five including those you tried, some had different file name, but same file), and went thru the mission like a breeze.
Edit: archive's size is 168 803 063 bytes, CRC32 is BE66556F. If you have different, it's a transmission error. If same, it is a problem on your machine.
Edit2: Bauchelin, IIRC, lost packets would affect only transmission speed, not contents, because they require acknowledgment to be sent back. (Yeah, I know the Venetian generals problem, but losing an ACK won't be critical).
Ok, I downloaded it from ttlg and it says the file size is 33.4 MB (35,054,784 bytes)
and on the disk it's 33.4 MB (35,057,664 bytes)
In the archive the total files are 1,466
Total length is 75,339,428
Packed length is 35,007,377
Ratio is 46%
. . I don't know what this translates to--if that's bad or good or isn't significant at all.

I think you should try to download another large mission from one of the download sites you tried, and see whether that works fine (meaning it's some weird error only occurring with ANIR3) or yields a corrupted file as well. The latter would mean that there is some problem with the downloads, somewhere between you and the download servers. As I said, a long file means it's more likely to get corrupted when there are problems with downloads.
I only remember one very large file right now: The
Ruins of Originia campaign, more that 200 megabytes in size if I remember that correctly. That's a bit more than ANIR3.
There is one other thing you can do: Open a Windows console (e.g., by clicking "Start", selecting "Run" and typing "cmd" into the window which just opened - for older Windows versions, use "command" instead of "cmd"), then type "ping -n 500 www.southquarter.com". The window will now be filled slowly with similar-looking lines. Each line means that your computer has sent a test signal to the Southquarter site, and got a response from the site as well.
After several minutes, the lines will not appear any more, and some statistics are displayed, for example: "500 packets transmitted, 500 received, 0% loss" (and a bit more). If there are more packets transmitted than received, then your computer did not get an answer for some of the packets - these are "lost", meaning your "% loss" number will be above zero. If more than five to ten packets are lost, it is likely a problem with the connection between your computer and the Southquarter site.
Well, I tried that and there's no problem, apparently. 500 packets transmitted and 500 received, 0% lost. :erg:
EDIT: baeuchlein, would you (or someone else) be able to provide a link to the download of Ruins of Originia, please? I'm going to try to download that to see if I get the same problem, but searching for it on the fan mission section of The Circle gets me no results. :(

You are right, lost packets basically mean that the computers will compensate by sending those packets again (when you're doing a real download), thus reducing download speed. However, too many lost packets are a hint that something is not right with one's connection to the internet server. When I had connection problems in the past, almost every time I also noticed about 2 to 5 % packet loss. If packet loss exceeded 6 %, the connection was unusable and produced more error messages than texts from the internet. (And I
don't know about any Venetian generals and their problems, but I think it does not matter here...:cheeky: )
But apparently, Lady Taffer still has problems with the download despite zero percent packet loss.

That means something bad. The file size should be about 160 megabytes, as CheeseshireCat said. There are several versions of ANIR3 out there (e.g., french and english, and even with or without briefing movies, IIRC), so there may be some of significantly different size, but 33 megabytes is far too small to be a complete download - unless you accidentally downloaded the Xvid movies only, which are somewhere in the 30 MB range but contain no mission. But they should not contain so many files either...

On the Circle, it's mis-spelled as "Ruins of Origina" (instead of Origin
ia"), but you can find it by searching for "Origina" or "Mines". The one I mean is the
Thief 2 version, not the (much smaller) beta version of "Mines of Margroth" for
Thief 1.
Anyway, the Circle link is (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=426) http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=426.
The Southquarter site has an entry for "Ruins of Originia", but it points to another campaign (Sperry's "Shadow of Doubt") instead.

I had already thought of taking this subject into the Technical & Troubleshooting arena.

I will start a thread there at once!

Dark zone: Good god :laff: I think that's the scardest I've been playing an FM.
I just spent the last few days playing through all 3 of these. I can't imagine how much work must have gone into them. What a fantastic series! Can't wait for the next part!

Thanks a lot :D
And I can't wait for Strain7 too !
