Smart builders save often. Glad you did that, and yay for a new laptop, sorry the other one died on you though. I hate to think if you would of lost all your work. :o:erm:

just make sure your new laptop is Thief/Dark Engine friendly/compatible (most/all new laptops are NOT out-of-the-box - esp. in graphics chips/OS department - CPU multicore issue is easily fixable - but the other two mentioned - not. Hope you've heard of/use ddfix but some new graphics chips - esp. ATI HD2xxx and higher - including their mobile versions most likely - still make DE games nearly/practically unplayable even with ddfix due to horribly low fps; and without ddfix they make them both slooow/look very ugly - due to removed dithering support in hardware most likely). So before your laptop buy please consult in appropriate subforum here to make a Thief-friendly purchase so it doesn't hamper your building progress ;). Have you decided on any specific model yet?
and good you backup often, unlike many others (uncountable FMs were lost because of it, I'm sure :().

I seriously consider buying a HP Pavilion dv7-1123ef. I don't know anything about processors and stuff, I only check for memory and graphic cards. It has 3gb ram and a geforce 9600M GT, all good to me. And I can get one with a rather low price.
But I can't tell if it's good or not for thief, I'll see what I can find. It was planned for long I'd buy another laptop for my job, but I wanted to keep the other one only for thief as everything worked perfectly fine with it. Whatever, my good old zd8000 have its graphic card which burned or something, a normal problem as it gets old. Can't do much about it, except open it and change the motherboard and almost everything inside...
I'll discover Vista too, I'm still on XP.

Vista can be a pain in the A** sometimes.

Sounds like any one could do little more than open the case and take out the hard disk - it should still be salvageable, and could be used even in desktop computers with a suitable adapter.

Is there a walkthrough for this mission? 26 on-line pages is A LOT to go through here at TTLG, I'll never get to play :tsktsk:
& DRK:
When you buy a new computer bring the thief game with you to the store. I brought T3 with me to the store and asked the people there if I could install it to the zd7000 to see if it would run, before buying it. It did, so I bought it. I had been to another store before that and installed it to a laptop with an ATI graphics card & that didn't work at all. Don't take any chances :sly:
Also, you may want to check the memory card(s) first, because they are the ones that are usually first to go in a laptop...

When you find the book of names and I give it to Thales the objective ticks off, but nothing happens... Isn't he suppose to say or do something? He just keeps walking in place...
DrK on 9/1/2009 at 12:48
No walkthrough yet if I remember.
Thales does say something when you enter the room, "drop the book and go to Soul Vlain". Just go to the portals.
Do you have the gems, Dead shadow and Living breath ? Maybe it didn't activate because you don't have them yet.
Concerning the laptop, I'm planning to buy the one I mentioned because I found it at a low price on a professional website, I can't try thief on it. Anyway, here in France I don't know any kind of store where they would allow me to install a game on their stuff...
And it does come from the graphic card, not the memory.

Hey Drk:
I got 1 gem, how many are there? as for Dead shadow and Living breath, I'm guessing all of this stuff is found in the area where I got the book I gave Thales..? When entering that area I noticed I can drop down below entering that area. If I do drop down, will that even set off the guys about something is stolen and hunt for me?
DrK on 9/1/2009 at 16:04
dead shadows and living breath are the name of the 2 gems/stones Thales want you to find. To end the mission you need both stones and the book.
