Thanks for the info DreamWalker. I finished the mission.
I played it on Hard. Is it mush different on Expert? I noticed there was at least one building which I was not able to enter.

Expert means more cops (blue) and you're not to even touch them. Can't kill anyone else. Another body to deposit. Less water arrows. Noisemakers come in real handy. Hint. Entice other thieves and blue cops to kill each other off. Save ... Save ... Save.

Thanks for the help! I'm now on the ship and I've found a few red buttons that seem to make a faint noise of a door opening somewhere but I can't find what has changed after I leave the room and frantically look around. Thanks in advance for any further help!

Those buttons are timed so you have to have a route planned out in advance, so you can take the shortest route from one to the next. You should also have found a scroll down in the torture room area that gives you the order you need to push them in.

I hit all the buttons but nothing seems to have changed. I went to "the front of the ship" and found nothing unusual. I even went under the ship but the "door" there is still shut. What do I need to look for? Thanks!

Did you turn the wheel on the wall of the Captain's room? Look at the ceiling and then go check under the ship. :)

Thanks again for the help Nightwalker, but I tried to turn that wheel in the Capt's room (after hitting all the red buttons), but it will not turn. It lights up, but that is all, and the only special thing about the ceiling in that room is a square hole above the marble table thingy. Any clues as to what gives?

Snuka - You have to push all the buttons, then go the the Captain's room. The plate in the middle of the ceiling should be open now and inside it is a peg that fits into the wheel on the wall. Once you fit that in, the wheel will turn. The peg in the ceiling hole can be a little difficult to see, so check carefully. :)

Hi! I have been playing smuggler's request (geat FM :thumb: )... The mission was playing well until I hit the area where the safe is.. Now it runs choppy... It is very frustrating! I have tried other FM's and restarting smuggler's request.. They run fine. I am playing on hard, have turned the weather/fog off, updated drivers, etc. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it? I would really like to finish this mission.. but it seems to be getting worse and my eyes can only take so much :wot:
My system stats:
AMD Ath 500
FSB 100
nVidia TNT2 32MB
Win98SE
256 MB SDRAM
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Am I up a creek? Will I find the paddle?

Hmmmm.....doesn't happen often, but it did happen recently to me.
I was betatesting a FM for someone and downloaded an updated version and **Bam!!** one area really started bogging down. I had saved the game, and a restart of my computer and a reload of my saved game fixed it. Only thing I could attribute it to was an AI that had been added had been activated, and it was stuck somewhere and the engine got confused and started dragging.
If a restart doesn't fix it for you, I don't know what will. Those specs should be gracious plenty to play FMs, but I haven't played Smugglers Request so I don't know if it's especially detailed or expansive.
You might also want to see if anything (other programs) are running in the background if you're using Windows (any version) and deactivate/close them just to see if one is causing the problem.
