Great mission, i'm suprised i haven't played it earlier, how on earth could it be hidden for me for so long xD? anyways i'm done with all the objectives, been to most unbelievable places on the map, but i can't seem to get to exit ? where is this thieves backdoor exit?
Tannar on 10/5/2009 at 20:06
If I remember correctly, you will find it in the area across from the doors to the Hammerite area. There is a Hammerite outside in front of those doors.

This was a fantastic mission - I don't know how I missed it before. This one felt like a Thief 1 OM...and that's quite a compliment. :D The first 80% of this mission was really, really entertaining.
The end of the mission is quite a different story. The keyhunt becomes mind-numbing after a while. The readables were so frickin' long and senseless that I ended up missing clues in the few readables that mattered. I also spent at least an hour running around mindlessly trying to figure out the last couple of objectives. Putting the book in the hammer depository just left me shaking my head.
Anyway, everything is complete except for leaving. The map is useless. There is a "home turf" scribble on it, but is that where I need to go? If so, where is that? I've been wandering all over waiting for the objective to tick off. I scanned this thread and saw a post about two glyphs - one produces a readable, another produces a key? If so, the first one worked, but the second did not. I got no stinkin' key. I know, I'll use my lockpicks. Oh, that's right, they don't work.
Just for the satisfaction of actually finishing it, would someone be kind enough to lead me to the exit with a key that works - - no clues...I already feel like a dumb-a$$ :o
- eep!

eepcat: that exit is only available on Normal.
On Hard, you can either pick up the key to Highgate (it is on the belt of the no-KO guard patrolling between Seeing Square and the Coronet) or go through the thieves' exit - first, get a key from the coal cellar near the "W" house (southern part of the map), and use it to open a door opposite the Hammerite seminary where you climbed up to the usurer's.
On Expert, the Highgate key has been stolen by a cat (you will find it in a windowsill in the court next to the Sorcerer's tower - at the place where you can climb down to the crate guy's apartment), but the other exit is pretty much as it is.
Hope that helps. Also, I hope to have learned my lesson in later missions; Bad Debts did have some design problems, including overlong readables and some really obscure puzzles. In Disorientation, I tried to keep those optional to the main objectives.

What do you mean by "but the other exit is pretty much as it is"? Is there another way out than the Highgate on Expert?

Yes, through the thieves exit, as described under the "Hard" difficulty.

This FM does a remarkable job with doing hard to reach places.:thumb: It's also a very challenging mission with somewhat vague clues and map, especially for such a sprawling area to cover.
I think I am stuck from a bug with one of the last objectives on expert. I can't find the landlord's key. I read from this thread that he is at the Coronet. However, I KO'd everyone at and around the Coronet early in the mission, and I think the landlord was one of them (the only non-guard AI in the building). After I got this new objective, everyone was still KO'd on the ground and no key. No new characters showed up.

Maybe the landlord got afraid when saw all those unconscious people and ran away? When I got to the Coronet he just ran outside, screaming: "help, help!"
