There's a sequel? Right. I'll look out for that if I ever get out of here alive. Still no idea what I'm doing or where I am but so long as I keep finding stuff I'll continue.
I previously found Marcus's shop door but in an effort to work around to find an entrance I have totally lost track of it. I might be on the other side of the city for all I know! Currently I find a mine trap. I died many many times but finally got through with one just one life left. So I see what looks like a keeper compound. Nothing frobable but a half statue which I think is one of those that holds a talisman like at the Cathedral. It doesn't highlight though and I ain't go no talisman.
I have no health potions but enough food to give me two more lives but decided to reload from just before the mines to get my lives back. I don't how I'll ever find my way back - or my way back here later (except I think I jumped across to a keeper statue in that big shaft.)
I tried dropping crates on the mines, laying a crate to climb over, flash bomb, etc. Is there a way to disable them I'm rather rusty with some Thiefy things. They do highlight but I have a lot of noise locally so if they click off I can't hear it. That same noise meant I didn't hear that big spider coming in one underground walkway. It totally scared the shites out of me because I wasn't expecting anything and we practically bumped into one another at a corner. Scared him too. He looked at me. I looked at him (after screaming like a girly.) Then out came my blade and he seemed a bit restricted or dazed because I managed to dispose of him with no loss except my dignity. I looked in my inventory for a change of trousers but no luck there.
Am enjoying this so far. Hope I don't get stuck though because my navigation is poor. Seen a clue about a key with a cat. I've already seen the drunk on the roof. I got the public works key, pub key, thieves key.

The sequel is aptly named Disorientation, although it is actually easier to navigate than this level. If you are in need of help, here is some:
You are currently in a secret area, but there is little essential to find except a large loot cache after a lot of climbing. You can get through the mines by dropping something on them from an appropriate distance, but running through and disarming them from the other side is also possible - just very hard (I didn't know it was possible until people pointed out that they could do it).
To navigate the level, think of it as a large street loop with a network of connecting routes in the middle. Basically, any way you go that isn't a dead end will return you to the loop sooner or later. There are a few important landmarks: the Usurer's place is to the extreme East, Garrett's rented apartment and his Landlord's place are to the Southwest, there is an impassable gate to another quarter to the South and the Coronet pub is to the Northwest. In the centre of the level is Seeing Square (large dome with statues at the top), an important hub that lets you go to any of the above. It helps to print the high-res map found in the archive file.
The easiest way to get out of the abandoned area, starting from the mines, is to follow the way back to the upper reaches of Seeing Square, go north, then through a secret door to some battlements which lets you return to the street level - or go West to find the key stolen by the cat.
The key with the cat is a bit hard to find, and one way to exit the level (I assume you are playing H/X, since the scroll doesn't appear on Normal). You can find it in a high window in a courtyard near that tower in your screenshot. It has a faint glow around it.

A great help for me to find my way around was to simply write down where the different exits (ground level and high up) from Seeing Square leads to (as I was trying them out, one after the other).
As for the mine trap, here´s what I did: I placed a mine of my own close to the edge just above the mines, stepped back, fired a broadhead...KABOOM!
(I have never been able to run past them)
I love this mission. Seriously twisted, lots of fun gamplay and a major challenge for a no-reloader.

Ah! I wondered if I could use the mine I'm carrying but only thought of dropping it on the others - which would just make it worse. I'll try your idea if I find some reason to go back there (eg, a talisman.)
Thanks for geographical tips - I'm beginning to identify a few places at least. I shall print that map if I remember tomorrow.
Not far from the beginning I passed a front door guard on a corner. I climbed up all over that place but never found access. There's a W on the south side so I think the place is Wainwright on the map. Is it actually possible to get in there? Unless I am oriented wrong and its the next corner on the map marked 'no entry'?

The "W" house: two ways in, one from the street and the other from above. The guard is guarding another house, however, and is by default not hostile. Outright spoiler: cellar door, or go back some way on Wainwright, rope up and follow the ledges to an open window.

How do I get into Tomlinson's place? Above and to the right of the front are two locked entrances. One is silent when I try to lockpick it and the other gives negative clicks. Got close as I dare but can't see a key on either of the thief guards out front. Does Timms have a key back at his place? I read and re-read his incriminating notes but I can't get anything from what he says about Tomlinson. There are also some crates in an alley on the north side of this block but I can't find anywhere to climb up. Also viewed from the Seminary but see no way.

Depends on the difficulty:
Normal/Hard: get up on the balcony, climb some vines and enter through an open window. You will find what you arelooking for right there.
Normal/Hard/Expert: walk back towards the "W" house until you find a ladder leading up and a metal bridge over the street. Climb up, then face back in the direction of Tomlinson's. Jump to a ledge, and go around to two grates in Tomlinson's house, one of which can be frobbed open. Climb down to his shop (and save before using ropes, that's unfortunately heavy rope bug territory).
If you don't know what to do with the evidence: go to the upper walk on the Hammers' Seminary.

OK, thanks Melan. Guess I must be on Expert then because that window is locked and unpickable. Now I previously unsuccessfully explored every ledge and rooftop around the W area to try to get into that place with the front door guard so it will be interesting to see what I missed. I recall getting onto a metal bridge from the other direction and then I think I roped down.

Been there before and attempted that jump many times and failed so thought it was impossible!. Anyway, now got Tomlinson's book. I figured take it to the city watch somewhere but thought I'd better check your extra tip first so now I'm heading back to the seminary. Hope that guy welcomes me with open arms. Last time he tried to fry me. Big open area. Don't recall anywhere special to drop the book. We shall see ... manyana.

There's a certain thing there specifically meant for dropping things.
And you're still Garrett, so the Hammers themselves are probably not going to be friendly.
