Happy Halloween, Taffers! This level began soon after I created "Mine Affairs" and was meant to focus on creating an interesting and organic feeling outside environment with a convincing atmosphere. It evolved from several basic test environments as I experimented with what I felt worked to create the best environment and gameplay I could, using my own custom textures. In fact, all the evironment textures are custom, created from either pictures I personally took, or free textures I downloaded, and several I recreated based off of some very low quality Thief I textures. (The Object textures are pretty much all original). I must say though, I learned almost as much about the dark engine and dromed making this level as I did making "Mine Affairs".
The story evolved very slowly, but I tried to integrate a consistent theme in all the readables and somehow I ended up creating some back story to TMA in the process. I hope you enjoy the level and the gameplay, but most of all I hope I that the theme of the story is thought provoking to you. Bonus points if you can find the readable that relates to "Mine Affairs". =P
Mission Description: Thirty Thousand. A tidy sum to say the least, but that's how much my enigmatic benefactor offered me for this job. About a week ago I received a letter from a fellow who only identified himself as "L". He wants me to find a relic called "The Onyx Crown". Apparently it was last owned by a mage who lived in a secluded tower in the northern moutains and helps to focus one's magical abillities, making it very valuable to the magically inclined.
If it still exists, it would be in the mage's tower, but if the location was ever known, it is most certainly lost now. Over a hundred years ago the mage attempted to wipe out a group of Hammerites building a monastery nearby, but only succeded in getting herself utterly destroyed. That monastery is thought to be Saint Tothale's, which lies at the pass that leads to several small mountain settlements above a small garrison that protects the monastery and pass.
"L" included a map of the area and has provided a cabin to stay at not far from the monastery. The best place to start would be to sneak past the garrison, into the monastery and see if I can't find any records about the battle between the Hammers and this mage...

Has there ever been a day in the history of Thief with four non-contest missions released simultaneously? Wow!

Congratulations on the release of your FM Antimatter_16 :thumb:
When I walk from the house (frontdoor) to the dark path on the right, I can't get onto that path. I keep jumping back. Is this meant to happen?

I assume you mean the path in front of the Garrison or the north path at the monastery, yes, the teleporting back is meant to happen. Some dark forces are at work.
You'll also find dewdrop waiting for you someplace. =P (There's also an outhouse someplace, for those who are less fond of the doll.)
