No idea what room with 'bats' you have in mind...
Go
down to the lava-pit, with the skeleton at the bottom.
From there you just need to go to the room close by,

The area with the 'wooden frames on floor' and two bats, you're in, if you go back to the doorway, with the wooden panel that breaks, when you walk across it. There's a hole directly across you can crawl through and explore.
The area with the one bat and fireball, this is the area with the big open space looking down into a courtyard like area. There's stairs at the back end, leading down there. There's also a ladder, leading to another area, where you can 'press 4 buttons' :Dmaga on 2/9/2012 at 15:23

do you mean the start in the rocky gully, if so

after I press the 4 buttons and approach the portal, I get a crash to desktop. Anyone having the same prob?

I experienced no crash to desktop. It's a shame, you can't get it to work, I got a kick out of the homage. :cheeky:
