Problems,
Game runs fine until I retrieve the maintenance key.Upon returning to the lava area, regardless of whether I go out through the tunnel or out the way I came in,the game starts lagging terribly, and eventually crashes Thief.
Any cures?

That particular problem never came up during beta or development. I just checked the rendering stats in this area and I never registered over 375 polygons on the screen at one time. That should not be causing any crashes. Must be something else.
What's your resolution? I run T2 at 1280x1024.

All the (English lang version) download links are 404 now.
You can still get it from Cheap Thief Downloads - (

OK. I must be dumber than a rock! Or I'm just looking right at it and not seeing it.
I'm in the pagan village, found the angel, unlocked the gate to the "pond" or whatever it is with the little boat. I rode the boat into the cave and now I don't see what to do. I've spent time under the water, looking at the ceiling, everything I can think of but still nothing.
Could someone please tell me what I am missing or doing wrong? I would be most happy and appreciative.
Thanks,

The mission should end when you enter the cave. Odd. Ctrl-Alt-Shift-End to force the mission's end. Then click 'Continue' to play part 2.

Thank you so much. Odd that it didn't end but I'm off to play part 2. I LOVE this mission! You did a SUPER job!

We discussed something very similar a few months back in a german Thief forum. I guess the same happened here.
In the lava room, there is a strange red monster somewhere on the rocks. If you enter the room for the first time, these rocks are on the opposite side of the room. Sometimes, this red monster drops down, and once the fire burrick at the bottom notices it, the burrick starts attacking the monster. The burrick's fireballs are what slows down the game enormously.
I've checked it several times: Whenever the two monsters fight, the game becomes an unplayable slideshow. Whenever it's all peace and tranqulity in the lava room, even an old computer can run the game smoothly.
I doubt that a faster computer would help, for the mission runs fine on an ancient Pentium II at 350 MHz, but even an Athlon XP at 2.1 GHz cannot handle the monsters' fight. Changing the OS from Win98SE to Windows XP and back did not help either.

Hmmm...I never caused those two AI to fight, and apparently, neither did the beta team. I suppose I should make them both Team: Bad1. Look for an update soon.

For those of you having crash problems in the lava area, D/L
(http://www.ricebug.net/temp/miss17.zip) this file and see if this helps. Simply drop it in your Thief 2 folder AFTER installing Crooked Town via DarkLoader. It will overwrite the existing file. Unfortunately, you will have to re-start the mission.
Please let me know one way or the other. If it doesn't help, maybe I'll have to replace one of the creatures causing the problems.
