I find only two vents, one with a fan, near the torture area. Am I in the correct location?

You 're not in the correct place...
you have to go to the basement area near the catacombs, go down the stairs where the power goes down, then you have to get where Mortimer's voice says: "Follow me"... you will find the phantom standing near there, go where he is and find a openable grate in that room with pipes and a water poolShadowcrawler on 28/8/2011 at 19:01

Where is Mortimer's other office with the safe key? It's the only objective left for me. As for the tunnel key, the door is bashable with a dagger and thus the key isnt really required :cool:

thank you, She-Thief; it is the deepest, most NW corner of the basement.
Lawviz, I had trouble finding it too (the first time, and then finding it again later!): when you exit the starting room, there is a guard behind a window; look around nearby for a door to get to him, then continue exploring upwards.
