Excellent mission, Darkmax :thumb: good well-implemented story, immersive, explorable & with a threatening, spooky atmosphere. Lots of great 'wait-watch-time-your-moves' gameplay, & I particularly liked the AI treatments / sounds used.
Minor thing: agree with others that the layout, whilst clever & appropriate, was a tad confusing in places - almosy felt I needed a trail of breadcrumbs to find my way back out of a couple places, & I basically found the house by sheer luck! (you could also throw in a few secrets if you like - I wouldn't complain :) )
Thank-You - thoroughly enjoyed it. (Ummmm, is a part 3 in the works? hint, hint)

Thank you! The fm idea was that: You don't know where you are and you get lost easily, like a maze. And yes, there will be a third fm (75% done), the campaign ends when the Darkstone Gem is obtained :cheeky:, which is not an easy task.

OK, I have read through this thread 3 times, and I still do not understand where I should be going next.
I need to find a key that (from what I have found in readables) I think is in the sewers and I think it opens Mortimer's room and a storage room. These are the only two door I can´t open right now.
I do not understand what you people mean by 'basement'. Except for the obvious two floors (that have a mansion feel) above ground, the whole level is a basement as far as I am concerned...
I do not understand what you mean with 'catacombs'. Perhaps I have not seen them yet?
I have not seen any sewers. Just a small pit with knee-high water and a ladder inside it.
I have not experienced any power failure going down some stairs. Exactly where is this supposed to happen?
I have not seen Mortimer's ghost. I have heard a ghost voice once, but that was in a very small hallway room just outside the little room where I nicked the holding cells key and the torture key. The ghost voice happened when I cycled to the torture key in my inventory, but that might just be coincidence...
I have found some openable vent gratings, but they have all just been small storage compartments (like in the torture room with an iron maiden, and the secret one in a holding cell), nothing that leads to any kind of crawl passage.
Help! Please direct me from some spot I know to exactly what room/passage/vent grating I need to get to.

@jiansonz, you blind-as-a-bat Taffer:
There is one more door in the "library", right next to the shelf marked 'Plumbing'! :p:eek::laff:
Yeah, I found it myself, after 2 more hours of searching. That was embarassing...
(On the upside, there are now four of them robot-thingies locked up in the holding cells, so that part of the mission is easy-peasy to navigate now! And I am still on my virgin no-reloads run! Just found two loaves of bread so my HP is now a little more healthy, at 5 points. And just before finding my lost door, I figured out I could reach through the bars in that locked storage room and pick the chest there, so now I have a flash bomb again. Things are looking up...)

The "Plumbing" means that the books on the shelves are about that xD. You have to find a
golden key in the water, in the sewers where there is a mechanist sleeping. To get in here, look for a frobable grate where you found the two loaves. :)

Yeah, I had very little problems figuring out the rest of the mission (that key in the sewers was hard to spot, though, but I knew (thanks to readables) that it had to be there). Interesting that the thing that stumped me for >2 hours was finding a door that wasn´t even hidden. :o
Big thanks for a really good mission!

Well, I'm feeling much better now - had
exactly the same problem 'finding' that totally-not-hidden-whatsoever door!
Diabolically clever stuff, DarkMax :laff:

lol, glad you enjoyed my maze style mission. :joke: It's the only fm from the campaign that is made this way, the rest aren't as confusive as this one. :p

I can't believe I just played this mission, even though it was in my archives all this time, and I have played all the T2's 5 or 6 times over. What an outstanding mission! Perfect in every way!

@Brooklyn: This thread is about the solo release of Broken Gears. Don't miss the other two missions (A Heretic's Intervention and Stealthy Business) in the campaign that is (somewhat confusingly) named Darkstone Gem chapter 1.
Campaign download can be found (
http://thiefmissions.com/m/DarkstoneGem1) here.
IMO, it's the first mission, Looking For Info, that is the real masterpiece. Such a beautiful city, and such fun gameplay! But they are all very high quality missions. Stealthy Business feels a bit like an improved and updated Thieves Guild.
