There are many allusions to OM's, FM's and other non-thief-media keep circling in my head since they pop up while DP2 walkthrough. These added some extra spice to the perfect "Taste" of the mission.
Heh heh! Maybe I should have left the reference to Ferris Bueller in there, huh? I'll have to add that back into a Director's Cut some day. :cheeky:
I'm too lazy to look back to see who mentioned the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob%27s_Ladder_(film)) Jacob's Ladder allusion, but you were spot on. We kind of wanted to take it a bit further, but I just didn't have time. Of course both the mission and that film were in part inspired by (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Occurrence_at_Owl_Creek_Bridge) a certain story by Ambrose Bierce also.

Oh thanks for reminding of Ambrose Bierce. That book was something that Stephen King's novels couldn't overdo in my imagination. Well let me also throw a David Lynch allusions in. ;)
And... wait a minute... does Dr. Lang speak a lil' beat like Joker from "Dark Knight" or am I just immersed in overall joker-hysteria?

I was kind of channeling this guy...

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/DromEd/SithLord.jpgDr. Lang was fun. The freezer scene was done...I dunno maybe two years ago...let me check that....actually it was December 13th 2007. It was done in one take.
The victrola message was done while in the beta testing stage. I took the bullet points from the journal on the desk and did an ad lib from there. It was one take also.

Not just one take... you told me the Lang bit was the first and only take. Amazing, sir!

While translating dialogues to Russian I've got a pair of giveaway frases from the very beginning:
Willick
I’m guessing it wasn’t that simple or you wouldn’t be boring me to tears…
<skipped>
Alright, now tell me, was it really haunted?
So a very simple idea pops up: (well spoiler tag is not enough, gimme the LULZ button :laff: )
Garret was smashed by Willick for really stupid and boring mumbling about haunts, darkness and White Lady and because he needed to take a real good rest.
Before the dialogue begins, Willick found Garrett in the pub completely drunk and crying "Why Barney? Oh Barney!" Yes, master thief killed his own guardy-buddy, but it is unclear was that a routine mission act or something more strange.
So Willick buys a pair of beer and asks Garrett not to hold the pain inside. And the pain goes out.
Willick listens to all that bullsh*t about evil ones and shadow others, buys more beer (and food as you can see while intermissions) and tries to discover what is truth and what is rave.
I guess he finally figures out that Garrett is gone nuts after hearing a story about arguing portraits. And Willick understands subconscious and shadow nature of Garrett's dilusional self-punishment for Barney's murder.
So at the end they say goodbye and when Garrett walks out the bar he gets a whack on his head but keeps seeing his dark side emanations some time before drowning in the healing embrace of Morpheus.
I hope Garrett will feel himself better when he wake up. Well he'll have to cope somehow with Barney's murder but finally he will be back in a thief row. LULZ ends here. :laff:

noooo, you killed garrett! ;) nonetheless this mission was superb. entertaining and creepy. although it gets a bit oldschool during the shadow-keeper part, the exciting feeling of sudden scariness never left my mind. very well done.
btw. i would have loved to kick the doctors ass back to the nut house from which he somehow managed to escape, but you cant have everything.
