Posting foreign language missions should be encouraged. I am sure that many authors are anxious to release their missions in their native language. Of course, news of these missions makes it here as it should. We just have to be a bit patient. If an author does not choose to make a translated version, perhaps some of our talented & knowledgable members could offer to help. ;)
Remember that some people do not speak English...shocking I know! ...and that, for a non-English speaking author, translating a mission into English is not an easy task. Translating (to or from) a highly idiomatic language like English is hard, and humor can be even more difficult for many reasons. I didn't realize just how hard until I helped finish an English translation. What I got was good, but it needed a lot of rephrasing. That takes time & a lot of effort because often there are several ways to interpret things. It not easy, so let's give it a break. Please.

I strongly agree pavlovscat. I, personally, don't have the self-control to wait for an English translation, but those who feel strongly enough about playing in English must surely be able to do so.
Yes, I often get stuck in foreign language missions, but ... well, frankly, I don't give a rat's whisker. I've been known to learn small things about other languages from getting desperate enough to consult babelfish and common sense.

Agree with the seperate thread idea. For example : -
T2 FM: Doschtles Labyrinth Jan 01/08 (German)
.....& later.....
T2 FM: Doschtles Labyrinth Jan 01/08 (English)
This should make it perfectly clear when (& if) an English translation becomes available.
Mirko : Thanx, & looking forward to it.
pavlovscat : you make very good points.
Thief_4: would you please use spoiler covers whenever discussing mission details. jeesh...

DOWNLOADING NOW!
Been starved for a new mission - thanks for this one!
How about putting all the blah blah about exclusionary parameters for non-English language missions in another thread and leaving this one for stuff about THIS mission?
That being said -- I throw my tiny weight in with Old and Cunning and Pavlov. You might be surprised how many people in this forum get a lot of good gameplay out of missions whose readables they don't understand. Seems just stating the language it supports at the beginning should be enough.

If a foreign mission needs translation help, then this can be done by creating a thread whose title directly addresses that need:
German FM: "Dark Tributary" Needs Translators This keeps confusion/dissapointment down because we know its not quite ready for English consumption yet.
In that case you will have people screaming for download links, too.
And you know that lots of Thief addicts that don't speak the language in case will have a try at the mission anyway.
However, I agree that a better thread title could be a help to not hurt feelings that quickly.

Thief_4: Good to hear, that it works now.
Is the still closed door you can't open the same you mentioned before? If yes look nearby for switches (you'll need to activate too, but they're not hard to find.)
Look on the backside of the big hammers
For the translation question: I do agree with pavlovscat. It's not that easy to make a translation to English, if you're not a native speaker, and it takes much time. And then you still need a nice person like pavlovscat to correct it. Then you have to check it again in game to see if everything is in the right format. Unfortunatly there seem to be not many English native speakers, that are able and willing to translate directly from German.
To give you a rough idea about the time it can take: For the translation of "Lord Alan's Factory" from English to German I needed about 25 hours working time or more.
Maybe one more thing: This mission was "officially released" only in the german forum. And I think it should go without question that one can release a german mission in a german speaking forum even if there's no English translation. Clearing only wants to do you a favour in passing on informations like these, so you don't miss it, if you want to play it. :)

Ok. I'll add news from not-english missions (and english missions ;)) (

ok stuck agian
i just hit book switch in secret area after putting out torch in church, where do i go now,the stone wall is still not open?i got a rope arrow but havent seen anything yet,any hints please,i also got holy water and some water arrows
and ofcourse i dont read german so i got no idea what anything says :P
I had no problems at this point but maybe it was because I did this first:
The plaque next to the exit to the inner courtyard says "Only the darkness permeates walls!"
So my idea was to douse the torch *outside* the wall-door (the one with the plaque).
One can do this with a water arrow from the window with the table under it (its in the same part of the maze).
The wall-door appears as a grey stone door from here and the torch is directly to the right of it.
Later, after finding and opening the sacristy in the church I found a scroll inside it, which has one sentence that translates to:
"First look out of the window before you open the exit because the enemy could get inside"
Obviously I did that already and the book-switch opened the door.
Of course.
I was only referring to the creating of "official" threads in
this forum. If you understand German, then you probably check ttlg.de along with this forum as well, so you know about the mission. If you are Polish or Russian, then you are up on the respective T2 FM release sites/forums for that community.
This joint here --- this is the spot for
English speakers.

... and much love for you Clearing. :thumb: On second thought, maybe this isn't such of a big deal. The suggestions earlier about clearly stating the language in the title should work out fine.
Sometimes the announcing of new FMs creates very delicate emotions in Thief addicts. Please refer to my classic thread:
