Not quite sure what you mean here.
It is possible to jump/mantle across the red glittering hallway from the opposite window (with the other haunt - I have the red dewdrop) and so I can peek down into the hole leading to the center of the white area. I can clearly see the central column and its side opening from above, but as soon as I drop down there everything turns instantly plain white (with maximal intensity), and no matter how I try to turn, move or swim around blindly (I don't seem to be able to) it stays so until I drown. It feels like a cutscene, where you cannot move at all...

... have you tried
turning the gamma level all the way down before entering said place?
Of course, it was the first thing I tried. I turned it down to zero - without any effect at all. The world outside sank into pitch black darkness - but the whiteness inside remained maximal, it did not even fade a tiny bit :weird:
Do I
actually need the white dewdrop anywhere?

What's the bottom line?
You can find
two related hieroglyphs both in Borin's book and on the wall of a cell at the bottom of the abandoned part of the prison (with the haunts). You can replicate them here with the red lines activated by the appropriate buttons, and one of the two is victory:idea:

What if you enter
the white place the same way you entered
the red place, i.e. via the
upper walkway? What if you try to get the
white dewdrop before the red one? I've tried doing it your way, I think, and it works for me.

Hmm. Not seen that before. Can you send me a save via a PM?

BTW, I have a lootlist if you want it, but it's still missing
Did you notice that
there is a full lootlist - in pdf format - in the mission zip? It's inside a zip-in-a-zip, called "Extras.zip"...:idea:Edit: oddly,
this list contains loot items up to 7014, while according to TTLG the total is 7434...?

PM sent.
Recent PM re-sent. Don't you resent it when that happens?
Check your messages once more.

PM sent. Recent PM re-sent.
I can play Thief only intermittently, because RL duties (some people call it "work") take their share.
Problem (in a way) solved: it did not occur on another computer (fresh T2 / latest TP install), so I exported a save,
picked up the dolls, returned to the real basement(!) and voilà: I have three dolls.:DBTW, I've never tried directly transplanting saves from one machine to another - I did not know they were so completely transferable.
Back to the dripping hallways - and elsewhere - to complete
what's not yet concluded (I have at least 8 unresolved questions at the moment). E.g., I wonder if picking up the "vessel in the sky"(?) was a bad idea...

Glad to hear it. So, onwards and downwards ...

Edit: oddly,
this list contains loot items up to 7014, while according to TTLG the total is 7434...? There are five "princess crowns," (worth 290) not available to the player. Also, a tiara (worth 125) is unobtainable. There's a coin (obj #4555) stuck in a solid brush.
Total unobtainable = 420. 7434 - 7014 = 420.

How do I open the door, "Some shall pass"? The door on the opposite side says, "Be more than what you can be." The qvartrigger lists a "Bigger than life" element, which doesn't tell me anything. Drinking various potions doesn't seem to do anything.
