And I'm loving this one. From other comments on here, I see it changes depending on the difficulty, so I'm definitely going to be playing this one again :D
I am having a problem getting up to the
second floor though - anyone want to give me a hint where to look? I'm probably missing something really obvious.
I really was missing something obvious - damn shadows!

Glad you're enjoying it. Yes, this mission is quite different on each difficulty, so I recommend playing it on all three eventually to get the full experience.

I can't find the written blackmail proof. I read on here to look behind statues on ground floor, since I can't find anything I assume that's for a different difficult y

I'm going to have to depend on Nightwalker and her notebook to help you here, it's been far too long for me.
Nightwalker on 19/7/2013 at 15:07
I wish I could help but I'm away from home and my notebooks. Hopefully somebody else will be able to answer it for you.

On Normal it's in plain view in the Lord's Bedroom on the 2nd floor.

Just got done.. beautiful mission, but ARG frustrating! I "found" inaccessible secrets which had me running around combing every inch of certain areas, only to find out they weren't unlocked in my difficulty level. It's really, really annoying finding secret doors with no switches to open them, and switches that don't do anything.
Incidentally, I think the mission is mixed up, because my clues told me the captain of the guard had the bronze gear (this was on normal). I had to read on the forums that it's... locked up in the basement? This was VERY annoying because I'd never found the basement and I spent a half hour in the captain's quarters trying to unlock the inaccessible secret door under his bed.
I want to say this was a great mission, but I instantly kinda hate any mission that I have to go on the forums and look for answers to finish >_> Truth be told, I think changing up the mission based on difficulty is a wonderful idea, but there needs to be NO trace of the other difficulties left behind.
That said, was a sequel ever made? Lord G made a big deal about a blood Ruby that he and half the city are after. Don't tell me Garrett wouldn't be tempted to go after it!

I understand and if I were doing this one today, I would have made the difficulties more pure as you mentioned. I've learned a lot in the last 8 years. :D
There was an empty sequel mission that AsyluM gave out to us (those of us who worked on this one) back in the day, it was the city hall building where the tunnel supposedly leads to. I think it (or part of it) was to be worked into the Chain Project 2, but that I don't believe ever got released. I also have a semi-abandoned mission based on it, so perhaps some day in the distant future it will get out there.

What a cool FM to get back into Thief with (sorry for the necromancy). I just wanted to thank you all for picking this up and finishing it. What a gorgeous and extremely atmospheric mansion-sneaker. Would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't played it yet.
edit - did anyone do a sequel to this? the museum storyline sounded too good to waste
