the crowbar can be used to silently dismantle boards that are blocking you. it allows you to not alert every AI in the area bashing them with your your blackjack (or sword if you bother to pick one up)

shaft, boarded room and vault? but I hadn't that glitch, so I don't know for sure, and you don't need flowers.

I didn't mean that but it's an interesting thought, I'm replaying the mission atm so will check out your idea but doubt it due to what Glypher has found out about this problem, the issue is with the squirrel script (MATSTEALDOLLS.nut).

The best way to solve the doll issue is to fix MATSTEALDOLLS.nut in sq_scripts folder, and this needs to be done by the author as we can not change his work without his permission. We've sent him detailed info on this and other issues and hopefully Personne will release a fixed version in the near future.

I probably misunderstood the issue, plus, frobbin hood said that he lost one and then found it, but he might had just thrown it by accident at that time. :)
Btw, when I entered, I had 2, lost none and I wasn't "holding" anything.
When I re-entered, I wasn't holding anything also, but they didn't get destroyed. But I see you are talking about having all of them and leaving the room, not just 1 or 2.

For what it's worth, I did a little test on the dolls - playing on Expert (middle difficulty).
Having been into the memorial room already earlier in the game if I returned with all 3 dolls now in inventory, entered the room and stood on the tomb the dolls would disappear from inventory (and a wisp of white smoke would momentarily appear outside the room). Reading the inscription or the book was irrelevant - just standing on the tomb was the trigger. If I didn't stand on the tomb the dolls would stay in inventory.
If I dropped one (or more) of the dolls outside the room, so I only had 2 dolls in inventory when I went into the room, there was no danger of any of the dolls disappearing, no matter what I did.
I didn't check to see if the dolls were teleported back to where they were originally found.

So, I haven't found the treasure room yet but I have this horrible feeling that it's at the bottom of the shaft with all the watchers and the intermittent red light? Is there any easy way down there apart from timing because my first 6 or so attempts have all failed miserably...

There is no easy way that I found but if you hide behind the posts the watchers can't see you and you can then time dropping onto the next ladder

It's tricky, but when you've done it once an easy route opens up if you need to go back.

You are right nightchild, I threw it by accident!
For the record, early on in my game, I went into the room when I only held one doll and nothing happened, I still kept it when I left. I also went back with the three, dropped two then picked them up again and all three were destroyed!
