If you are where I think you are, look for a recessed area with some large barrels. Closely examine the walls, which are dark.

Thanks clock, but I had to chop some barrells and I didn't find anything noticeable.
The wall looked slightly like some evil being. I also noticed in the first section of the town, there is a small gate that will not highlight so I can use a key in it. I did see a lever on the other side.

You can see the walkways from there, but you get up from the next section of town. Go through the police station, upstairs, out the door to the metal walkway, down and through the wood tunnel to the right. You end up in the shed Clock was talking about.

Keep looking and you will. Be sure to check Chez Serge VERY carefully, though.

I was stuck for awhile in the room after the room with the spiders and the pit with the big spider. I'm talking about the room with 2 guys with swords standing near a fire and another unarmed guy pacing around in a circle. I put out the fire with a water arrow, and then KO'd all 3 of them. None of them is L'Arsène, is it? So, I seemed stuck in that area, which lead me to do a search and I read the back posts on this mission. Now I'm really confused! I'm no longer stuck, because I back tracked to the room with the spiders and found out that I could mantel my way back up to where I was. There had been a metal door I couldn't open, but I now have a key called a sewer key which opened it, and I'm now in an area I hadn't been before. I know I'm in a new area, because in the previous areas I had put everyone to sleep, but now there's guards walking around again.
What I'm so confused about is that you're all talking about having 7, 8, or 9 different keys, and I have only 1, the sewer key. So far I've been able to pick open almost every lock, and I've been thinking that this is a mission without a lot of keys. But now I read there's supposed to be 9? How come I only have 1 key, have I been missing finding them? I also don't have any objectives completed yet neither. You all also keep saying what a huge map this is. So far it doesn't seem so big to me, so maybe my problem is that I haven't seen most of the map yet? I haven't found the police station with the cells to put L'Arsene in yet? I don't even think I've found L'Arsene yet? I read most of the back posts and I'm not even sure where all the places are that most of you are talking about?
So what I want to know is have I been missing all sorts of keys? Or should I not worry because I've only just now gone through the door unlocked by the sewer key? Btw, I'm playing on Hard, if that matters?

You're doing ok :)
More keys and more sections of the city lies ahead of you, so keep moving forward, taffer...

Once you fall into the dungeon, how do you get out? I got into a room with spiders, but that just led back into the main room. I tried rope arrows at the hole in the ceiling that I fell through, but the angle is never good enough for me to jump out.

KingInk -
In the room where you found the big spider, there were a few broadheads on the floor at the base of the end wall. That's the clue. If you look farther up that wall, there's a button. You need to hit it with a broadhead, though it might be a bit tricky from down below. It's easier to do it from the opening up above, before you fall down the hole.
Thanks, I would have never seen that.
