Replaying this excellent FM... where is the one secret?

Lady Jo said there was a secret in the "prostitute's" room; but who is the prostitute? The gal on the balcony? I couldn't find any secret there.

Just as Lady Jo said, but in a bit better English :) [SPOILER] The prostitute's apartment is up high above the North Gate (the one you go through after you get ambushed in the thieves den). You need to rope arrow up to get to the entrance. You can't even see it from street level. [/SPOILER]

At the risk of committing the heinous crime of thread necromancy, I have read the posts, I have a problem. I am standing in front of the gate where I found the note from emile victor. I cannot open it.

I have been in the area where the thieves ambush you, and die every time. I cannot find the key to the gate. If it is in the area where the thieves ambush you, then what is the trick to surviving. sneaking dont seem to work for me.

You have to get into the area where the ambush occurs as there's a key you need in there. I don't believe there's any way to continue on without it. For the ambush, try slipping off the side of the stairs into the shadows below. If you're quiet enough you can take care of the guard nearby without being spotted. This makes it a lot easier.

First off, what a fantastic story! I can't wait to get him!

But thats the problem, I don't know how!

[SPOILER]I can see him through the shutter, but I cannot get to him. I've been all around the town, got me stuff back from the Inn, but cannot get to L'Arsene. I read in his diary that the cripple has his key or something, but he doesn't. I know there is a gate next to the pub where he lived but I cannot open it. I also have the Jewerllers key, but that doesn't seem to be good for anything[/SPOILER]

I think that's everything, I've been wondering around for an hour trying to find a way in. :grr:

Any help and I would be grateful.

Since no-one else has asked this, I feel like a fool, but : - [SPOILER]Having got the sewer key from L'Arsene's "rival", I can't get back out of this area!! I've must have missed something really obvious.[/SPOILER]

Help would be much appreciated, as I'd really like to get on with what looks like an excellent mission, not to mention restore some self-esteem... :erg:
