Karrass' Diary is a splendid mission by Thorin Oakenshield. It's quite large, very interesting and presents a nice challenge for a taffer. It's original, suitably different in a very positive sense. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! One of my favorites, to be sure! :thumb:

I'm so sorry I wasn't clear enough (edit: I mixed up the basement levels) and you had to waste time on that level on account of my confusing hints! :o I hope you didn't quite wish me to be sent to Cragscleft yet :(, although I'd probably deserve it.
Sorry!

No problem, Mika (I gatther the "o" in mol is your middle initial. The word is that the Fortress is clearing out one of the cells in the lower basement so they can welcome a new guest. ;)

great mission only problem i had was not being able to get that blasted mouth to transport me, eyes in place, alan on back yet notta, no matter what i do i cant get it to work. quite annoying being trapped within with no way out but to be telported, could it be a bug or a glitch cause it no work.
Nightwalker could you send me a copy of the secrets lists, mostly switch locals would be good, those things ae hard to find thanks.
now only if it would only transport me to the next section of the level, still gotta return alan and find the truth, being stuck here is no fun, might try redownloading and see if that helps any.

Wild_inferno9,
Just to be sure, do you have a patched version of Thief II? In some cases unpatched Thief II has known to cause problems with FMs. (edit: It's probably not the case here, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.)
If so, then
are you sure you actually used the rubies on the eyes, and didn't just drop them on the eyes? They should visibly stick to the eye sockets, and you should also hear an audible sound indicating that the ruby stuck. The mouth of the face should also turn glowing red to indicate the portal opening.
If you've gone through the portal once before, and need to come back to the cavern and use the portal again, you must jump once while in the mouth to trigger it again, because apparently there was some difficulty in getting the portal working properly the second time round.
I've been playing Lord Alan's Fortress on easy, and I agree with what you've all been saying. This mission is visually stunning, and I also liked the birds flying around outside. It was one of the first things I noticed.
Well, I got the cube and all the loot I need, so I could end the mission, but I don't want to. I want to return the truth to Sir Ignaz, but I'm having a few problems. I've read this entire thread, but I need a few more hints. I want hints, not complete spoilers. I looked all over the basements and I don't see how you get to where the mask is, so I need help with just getting to where it is. I found the room where you can see it, but I don't know how to get there. I'm also confused as to how to get through the magical barrier in the lower basement. The note in Sir Ignaz's cell says only Lord Alan can get through. Does this mean I need to find him and carry him in with me? I don't know where he is? I haven't found the caverns spoken of in this thread, at least I don't think I did.
I'd also like to know the combination for the lock that opens the door to the room where there are more supplies? I can't even find a hint for that, but I did manage to get almost everything through the window. But what's the combo? There's also some double doors on the 2nd floor I can't open, how do you open them? And there's a frobble clock looking thing on the 2nd floor also that I can't figure out what to do with. I could use a hint on that too.
This has been a very good mission. I'm sure it's going to go down in the annals of Thief FMs history as one of the best.

@BadArm...
As for the combination you are missing.
there is a hint. You would have found it very close to the locked room.

It's a scroll on a guard's belt.
As for the rest. Well that's a lot of questions. I have one for you.
Have you been in Lord Alan's room yet? It sounds like you have not. You need to get inside there, preferably after getting a certain item from the
cell of Sir Ignaz in the lower basement
There are clues that will tell you how to gain access to the Lord's private chamber. You should have found them by now. If you really want to know how..
get up in the attic...look for a place to drop over an outside ledge down to the lord's outside balcony.
(How odd, I didn't notice the reply by SlyFoxx when I wrote this. I guess a message gets a time stamp when it's initially created, not when it's actually saved.)
BadArm,
Regarding 'The Truth':
Have you acquired the key that's resting on the pedestal in the Chapel? If not, then you need to get it. To get it, you need a certain magic gem, as hinted on the plaque on the floor of the chapel. As you've already received the additional objective of returning The Truth to Sir Ignaz, you probably also have the gem. If not, then you need to get back to where you found Sir Ignaz. Once you have the key, find a use for it in the chapel. That should lead you on.
The magic barrier cannot be walked through, so don't worry about it. There's another way out of the caverns. Those double metal door you found on the second floor: you must find another way in. When you do, you'll get another objective regarding Lord Alan.
Regarding the armoury in the basement: you should find that one of the uniformed guards patrolling in that general area is carrying a scroll on his belt. That scroll contains clues to the combination of the armoury room.
And finally the clock: do you mean the large clock-like frobbable thing above a fireplace, or a standing clock in the reading/library room on that level? For the clock-like thing above the fireplace, search that room very carefully for a hidden switch. If you can't find it, read the spoiler below.
Spoiler regarding a certain hidden switch:
The switch is hidden beneath the throne/fancy chair in that room.
Hope these clues help you along. Let me know if you need more.

mol,
First of all, what chapel, was there a chapel? Maybe I didn't know it was a chapel, where is it? As for the gem, yes I'm pretty sure I got that. It's light blue, right.
For the armory in the basement, I've already KO'd all the guards around there. I don't remember finding a note with any kind of numerical hint on it. That armory's almost empty now anyway. I'll take a spoiler on the lock combo.
The clock thing I'm talking about is the white one above the fireplace. I guess it was the throne room.
I looked all around that throne, I'll have to go back and look again, I must have missed it.
As for the clock in the library ...
I found the hidden switch in it after I had already bashed in the 2 doors on the top of the book shelf. LOL I got a little too impatient.

Also in the library, there's a painting behind a desk that I can see through a crack at the top of the frame. I can see some kind of room back there. Does that painting open, or is this a bug?
Finally, I'll get back to you concerning those metal doors on the 2nd floor. I have to work for there next 2 days so I may not get to play Thief again until Monday. I just couldn't sleep just now so I thought I'd check the message boards. Well, back to bed. :-)
Opps, sorry, I didn't notice slyFoxx's message to me neither when I wrote this latest post. Sorry SF, I have read it now and I thank you. As I said, I'd still like that lock combo.

BadArm,
Yes, there's a chapel (don't know what else to call it). At least it's a chapel-like room with a large organ.
One of the entrances to it is from the inner courtyard with the four statues, one patrolling guard and one standing still in front of the chapel door. But there's also a secret entrance to it, which you must find. I think that the chapel doors can be only opened from the inside.
I don't recall the colour of the gem, but it was found in Sir Ignaz's cell.
As for the armoury and other stuff:
One of the guards does carry a scroll on his belt. It contains clues to the combination of the lock. If you cannot find it, I don't know what's wrong, but these are the clues on that scroll:
"Watch your hand.
Close your eyes.
Touch your nose.
Vanish in the nothing."
Read the spoiler below for what that means in case it doesn't 'click' for you ;)
For the secret switch for the clock thing, you just missed something, as you suspected. Inspect the throne carefully.
Combination spoiler
Watch your hand = 5
Close your eyes = 2
Touch your nose = 1
Vanish in the nothing = 0
i.e. 5210:)
As SlyFoxx said, it seems like you have not been in Lord Alan's bedroom. SlyFoxx gave you instructions (see above) for how to get into the bedroom. Then...
Check frobbable items in Alan's bedroom to disclose a switch. That opens a secret passage that eventually takes you into the chapel.
No, the gem is not blue. It is white. It is called a "Magic Cristal" in your inventory. It is not loot. It is found:
in Sir Ignaz' cell in the lower basement
