There's a link to the patch for T2 in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum. I'd suggest patching T2 before you go on to anymore T2 missions, as I suspect you'll run into more of the same type of problems in future missions. It's also a good idea to make sure have Gaylesaver's scripts installed, as there are a few missions that require you to have them for them to work properly, though not many, as yet. :)

I'd really like to finish this excellent FM, but two things are stopping me. One, whenever I touch water, it causes a crash to desktop. Two, whenever I use the lift in the kitchen, it causes a crash to desktop. It's very frustrating, and my guess is that my saves have been corrupted somehow. I really hope that's not the case and that it's just that some of the mission files got corrupted and I can redownload them. If someone could test my save game and see if it's the save file that's corrupted, that would be great. I've uploaded it here: (

Any help at all would be, well, helpful
EDIT: Just checked and I can't get to the top floor at all, stairs or lifts

I downloaded your save and tried it. I'm afraid it crashed on my computer, too, as soon as the elevator hit the top floor. You may have to redownload the mission and start from scratch if all of your saves are doing the same thing. Sorry!
element_5 on 25/6/2003 at 23:23
Well, if it crashed you too, then the save is corrupted :(
I don't think I wanna Ghost my way back through, at least not for a while. I'll eventually come back and start it over :tsktsk:

This fm is freakin' awesome. Not only is it incredibly well thought-out but it's so much fun. I'm about halfway through (according to the loot and secret counts at least). I took a look at some of the spoilers posted on this thread so I know where to go now (I saw too much though! There goes the story...whatever, I'll try to forget...)
Anyways, aside from thanking LA for such an awesome mission I wanted to comment on the amount of females that play thief. This crushes my notion that computer games are male-oriented. I hope whoever my future wife is loves thief has as much as I do (at least so much as not to complain when I spend 8 straight hours thiefing)

Well, I found the key with no problem. I can't figure out what to do with it, however. I thought I would use it in the lower basement in the room with the swirly magic field, but can't figure out how.
Not only that, but I can't figure the combo for the 2 locks... I tried
1,1,1,1 and 1,2,3,4
(from a papyrus I found) but neither will work on either lock.
Of course, this is the FIRST FM I have played... it is a little confusing. In Thief, you always feel like you're going around in circles, and even more so in this fortress.
Thanks for any help!

LTM: the combination to the
cube vault is 1234. The doors close after a period of time however. Are you sure you are getting back to the proper door in time?
I forget what the other combination is. Been a while since I played this one. A search might turn it up.
You picked a doosey of a mission to start you FM taffing days.:D

OK, I thought I had tried that combo, in that lock, but evidently not. I know I had tried it in the basement combo, but thought I had tried it in both. My bad.
OK, so I have the cube, returned Lord Alan to his bedroom, have quite a bit of $$ (over 11,000), have found several secrets... can't remember how many. I'm actually doing better than I thought I would on this FM when I got started! LOL! The only thing I can *think* I'm missing is that I can't figure out how to get in that room with the mask floating abouve the pool to give to Sir Ignaz. Once I'm done with that, I think I can leave. Anyone want to give me a spoiler?

Never mind... figured it out and got the Truth. Surprisingly, I only got "returned" to the beginning 3 times during the trials. I never did understand "In the Blink of an Eye", but I got through it. I understood all of the other riddles without problem. Great FM!
Stats: 11570/12000 loot
13/15 secrets
Not bad for my first, I figure! :cheeky:

I LOVE Lord Alan's Fortress--I loved Lord Alan's Basement, but this is even better! I'm really astonished at the level design and the architecture! I've been playing for over 6.5 hours of mission time now, knocked out many people, and almost gotten to my loot quota. (man, this is really HARD! If I had paid $10 for this mission, I would still have gotten my money's worth!)
However, there are still several things that are baffling me...can anyone please supply me with some hints in the right direction?
--How do I get through that weird door with the force field in the basement?
--How do I get into the corridor with the locked gate in the level right next to the armory (you can see a lock box on the other side, but can't reach it)?
--How do I find Lord Alan? I read his journal, and I know he's with the painting, but where the heck is that??
--How do I get into Tower 5?
--How do I get into the room I can see from the attic near the statues (a little window shows through and I can see some loot in there and a staircase)?
--I've found 4-5 secrets so far, 2-3 in the attic area and 1 in the basement as far as I can remember. Are the rest of them lumped together in clumps or totally spread out?
--What are those three wooden doors on the 3rd floor that I can see from the attic balcony? And why do they look open when I'm up there but closed from the ground?
Um, ok, I think that's it. Anybody have the patience to help me a little, please? TIA!! :D
