Sorry, had to get that off my chest. I don't normally feel the need to boast about completing missions but I particularly pwned Sir Alan's Fortress.
Managed to get (virtually) all 15 secrets without having to get hints, in fact the only thing I really did need help with was that damn amoury code. Some of these were really hard to find too, I only spotted one 'cos I just happened to be looking up as I sneaked by the room. (Ok I did need help with
the wall tile in the pool
but I'm still pretty proud of how I did.)
Only 100 short of the loot total too! Guess there's a stack of coins lurking somewhere that I walked straight past. Knowing how well the author hides them though they could be pretty much anywhere. Probably under a chair or something.
Pretty damn sure there isn't one living soul in there who isn't going to have a lump on their head in the morning either (other than the 3 with the special helmets who I had no choice but to gas) so I can't figure how I didn't get a green tick for that. Anyone know what the head count is for this level or where that elusive person(s) might be? (I got the two you can't get till you have the cube.)
Over all though I have to say I even amazed myself with this one.
Right, I'm done now, I promise I won't do it again!!
This deserves to be up there with the best of them as far as Hammer score is concerned. A lot of thought went into where the frobs were placed for the secrets, they all had a logic to them, not just random places you wouldn't think to look. Do more missions Andrea you are a genius.

Never noticed any non-BJ-able guards there. IIRC you can use your best friend on all of them. But may be you haven't been to the exit There are 2 more guys waiting in the archway in the outside western wall

I agree. I think this FM in particular is under-rated ... it v rarely gets posted as one of the top FMs, but I loved it. :D

Lord Alan's Fortress is an outstanding mission, one of my all-time favorites! :thumb: Not only does it look absolutely stunning, it is simply brilliant in its overall design and execution of gameplay. It offers so much variety and plenty of challenges, that I definitely place it among the very best of Fan Missions!
I never forget when I first loaded it up. I must've spent half an hour just gawking at the vast castle and its surroundings, walking around and looking at the splendor of it. I think this FM has a fantastic eye for detail, and I really have no idea why it doesn't get mentioned more often.
It's right up there with FMs like Ominous Bequest, Rowena's Curse, The Art of Thievery, The Oracle of the Prophets series, The Seventh Crystal and so on -- among the very best. :thumb:
Anyone not played it yet -- do yourselves a favor, and load it up! It is that good.

It's a big meh of overkill blacjacking, but has good architecture.
Son of Vicky....bah.

Objection: the bonus objective "BJ all guards" exists only in easy difficulty. On medium and hard it's BJ no one.

If you don't feel like blackjacking, try ghosting on Expert. It's set up very well for that. It's challenging without being incredibly difficult and adds a whole new dimension to the mission. It's one of my all-time favourites and I've played it many times.

Will the story make sense if I haven't played Lord Alan's Basement, or should that be played first?
Nightwalker on 2/3/2005 at 17:40
I think it would stand up all right on it's own but it would be nice to play Lord Alan's Basement first. I'd recommend the T2 version of it, by the way. It's much improved from the T1 version.
