T2 FM: Lord Fishkill's Curse (Aug. 22, 2003) - by Shadowspawn

Both of you have alot of patience to ghost this mission. I actually tried it once, but wound up running away from monsters to the point where I alerted everyone.
Anyway, ghosting is not my style, but I have an awful lot of respect for anyone who does it. (I prefer to knock everyone out and explore). I'm glad I didn't break the mission so much that it couldn't be ghosted.
I'll try and keep this in mind for the next mission. There are some interesting possibilities in the next one. Garrett is still cursed (at least until he finishes the mission) and he still has the amulet. So he can always take it off...

Just finished this - great fun. :thumb: Took longer than necessary because of revisiting (and attempting to revisit) places familiar from LOTP!
To expand a bit on Dafydd' s monster technique (he's said this already in other words):
If you stand close to a wall facing it and strafe sideways as you pass through the light, the monsters spawn on the other side of the wall and don't bother you.
So how about a new contest - the smallest number of monsters seen before getting the amulet?

I have a problem.
The second meeting with the Keeper - when I get there, he is fighting a haunt. I sit in the dark and nothing happens - they just hit eachother endlesly, the haunt laughs etc. I tried my water arrows against the monster but he seems invincible. I tried lurking him away from the keeper - the objective ticks off, the keeper leaves a letter on the table and disappears - but then how do I show him the note I found earlier?
Shadowspawn on 23/12/2003 at 21:08
I presume he's fighting a Skeletal Warrior? The metal and bone thing? There are no regular haunts in the mission.
His attacks should kill it instantly.
What, did you go meet him and take off the amulet? I never encountered anything quite like this during testing. I even tried this once, he killed the thing, then resumed his conversation with me.
I didn't expect he'd be in any battle which would occupy him for more than a second or two. He's studied these creatures and knows how to deal with them quickly.
Yeah, if he doesn't interact with you, the objective won't tick off. That is a problem.
So, does he get to fire off a magic attack on the creature? He should blow the creature away in one attack.
Can you tell me more about what's going on, and how you got to this position?
0Sah on 23/12/2003 at 21:55
Yes, he's fighting the Skeletal Warrior.
Well... Thie first time it happened I was carrying Johnny to a safe place, and was totally unprepared for what I have encountered (I forgot where I had to meet the Keeper, but I now know it's on the scroll). When I realised that most propably I have encountered a bug, I reloaded my save game and tried again. Same result.
I think it might be a savegame thing. After getting the amulet I wandered around the city, not feeling the urge to meet the Keeper instantly. Maybe I got close enough to activate the script, but not realising that I have done anything - and then walked away?
OK, about them: the Keeper keeps firing his "cold" attack on the crature, but it doesn't react, except for hitting him with its sword. Orlo is invincible too, in fact. When the monster hits him it is either a 'clang' sound, or a 'thud' sound (like when you hit a banner with the sword).
Shadowspawn on 23/12/2003 at 22:56
Sounds like I have an S&R bug. Orlo's attacks were designed to eliminate any of the summoned monsters. And Orlo shouldn't be invulnerable. As soon as he gets damaged enough, he's supposed to run through the rounded door and vanish.
Ah, Dark Engine! You constantly surprise me! This stuff was fairly well debugged. In fact, one of my beta-testers beat Orlo to death with the scroll on my first implementation. I had to remove that option......
Orlo doesn't react to you until he sees you. The whole end sequence with him is triggered by an AIWatchObj link, then it works into some conversations. So there's probably no way you could have gotten close enough to trigger something in advance.
Since his attacks are having no effect on the monster, I'm assuming this run through the game is sufficiently broken to have some unexpected bugs. Did any summoned monsters come around when you where down with the Wizards?
Can I interest you in running through the mission again?
I will go back and check Orlo and the surrounding stuff and look for a bug.

S&R bug? What's this?

Everything would work fine, if it wasn't for the Skeleton's godlike ability of being impossible to kill. I actually managed to trigger the converstation by running up Orlo while he was fighting. He stopped sumoning his spells for a while, but then I think the skeleton thing killed me.

No, there were no monsters after I got the amulet.

Sure thing. :) It should be quicker now that I know the way. And I'll try to log my activities accurately.
0Sah on 24/12/2003 at 00:38
I don't like doubleposts, but I just wanted to let you know that everything's quite fine now. Here's the 'log':
- took all things at start
- left throught the window
- gone throught the rooftops, a few monsters appeared but were left behind
- reached the tower
- took note
- entered mage center
- took the book, read it
- took amulet, left the book
- left the centre through the same location
- met the "frog" after reading the notice
- gone through the bank to the rendez-vous point
- Orlo didn't even have to fight and was already walking around by the time I got there, as if waiting for me. He took the note, gave me the letter.
When I played for the first time I have:
- entered the centre through the other exit, in the chimney
- been in the meeting place before actually getting to the centre: I found the secret, opened the two doors (maybe this is it?), and doused the torch (I think) that was in the smaller room.
*bump*
Hello there, I was just curious if the bug has been found or not? :)

Just finished this mission! It's GREAT!!! :thumb:
I really loved Life of the Party in Thief 2, but this version is much better!!
Honor to Shadowspawn!
When I started this mission I didnt knew it would be a familiar mission. When you walk on the streets and you enter a building, you have absolutely no idea that it leads to the roofs you have previously explored in thief 2. It fits perfectly in the original mission. The new Environments are very well made.
Secondly, this mission is scarry. Especially at the beginning :ebil:
You never know when those creatures appear and you dont know immediately how to fight them. This can really scare the hell out of you
You also notice that the mission takes place after thief 2. You see they've made monuments on he places where the duelling guards of Vernon of Willy died. They also sealed off the high window which gains entrance to the dayport traders bank, to prevent thieves (garrett) gaining access again.
Further I love the mages, the Objectives are challenging, it takes some time to find out where you need to go..and...I like Gorilla's :cheeky:
Only the end is a little dissapointing.
My verdict: Shadowspawn made a challenging and atmospheric fanmission from an allready great original t2 mission :thumb: If it wasnt stolen it would recieved a 10 from me ;) . Play this mission or be cursed :p
My score: 9.0
