The machine part:
I had a heck of a time finding it, too. But eventually I did....
It's the only treestump infested by frogbeasts, as Nightwalker said. Approach the stump via the long shadow, and when you get right up to it, look close at the left side: there is a small hole under the roots. You can frob the machine part without leaving the shadow that hides you from the frogbeasts.
I hope this helps!

I thought that I would never find that device. I've frobbed that stump at least twice. I think that I wasn't close enough when I did. But now I've finished the mission. Thanks Nightwalker and Dafydd. It took a little longer than expected, because I had to place the fake on the true description for Jenivere. :thumb: :)

Finally finished. An interesting mission although I would have never found the
correct tree stump, the combination number and the way to activate the jail buttons without help from the forum. It is priceless!
:thumb:

I didn't find the central puzzle particularly hard, alas. For me, the dead giveaways were the ASL paintings in Truart's house... I just looked them up on the internet, saw that they were numbers, and wrote them down.
When I listened to "She's a Rainbow," then looked at the clock and noticed some of the numbers were colored, I just mentally put them in the order that those colors appear in the rainbow -- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet (Roy G. Biv... remember that?); there were only four colored numbers, and they corresponded to the same numbers in the same order as the paintings, so I figured that was a good check on my previous answer :thumb: .
I later translated the Morse code, and it was the same. I just get obsessed with things like that :nono: .

Yeah, I gave so many redundant clues to that part of the game I thought for sure everyone would get at least one of them. I thought it was overkill to the extreme, but it would be fun for people to see how many of the clues they could find in the game once they figured it out. It's the easter egg that I really want people to try to find though.;)

You are just dying to tell us aren't you uncadonego?
Is the hall of fame for finding the easter egg?
uncadonego on 8/11/2003 at 21:55
Yep, but not finding the easter egg by accident. For solving the puzzle that gets you the answer to where it is.:sly:

My goodness - I got my 15 minutes of fame! I' feel strangely flattered even though I'm now on the wanted list :laff:
Now... if that guard go looking for a man with failing logic he won't find me! I'm a woman with failing logic :cheeky: And... I'm unstoppable anyways :thumb:
Now... to see if there's any clues that aren't logical in this mission - off I go :joke:
Thanks for the surprise! I laughed out loud when I saw it! :D

Whoa, brighten up those screens in Photoshop before posting, Garret- son! Even basic image editing apps should allow for gamma correction. You can't expect us to actually save them to our computers and do it ourselves :laff:.
Just something to remember for the future ,
