I've managed to reach the shrine entry, but the switch doesn't work. (although I've found the Hammer relics book, the 'find more info on gems' objective has not ticked off - is there something else I have to do before I can get into the shrine, or is this the end of the mission? :confused:
the shrine entry I mean is at the bottom of the lift, btw.

I've got the
Holy Water, and know where the
4 torches are, but the
holy water doesn't put out the torches. They automatically relight.<a little while later>

I have the same problem. I got down the lift but the switch doesn't work.

There are several ways to get to the vault. Don't know where you are so I'm assuming you are somewhere in the museum itself.
One way is to find the elevator on the floor you're on and take it down to the basement ... at the bottom you would turn slightly left coming out of the elevator then immediately turn right into the next room, continue through and then turn right again at the intersection and follow it to the end. klatremus on 30/8/2008 at 05:16

The lever at the bottom of the long lift isn't supposed to work. The mission will end when everything else has been completed. Have you 1) taken the Mystic Heart, 2) found the necessary loot, and 3) found the information on the gems? If not, then that's the reason you are puzzled.
Just go back up and taff some more. ;)
