If I'm reading your description correctly, you're almost in the right area. There's a small elevator in the area outside the doors to the prison that you're NOT allowed to go through. The key you need is in the office off of the room at the top.

That lift is up the stairs through the door off the kitchen.

I have the lift code from the spirit but cannot find any lift that requires a combination. Please, a direct clue as to how to access the warden's office? I take it is the room I can see next to cell six? Thanks!

There are only two lifts in the mission, one large and one small. The small one is at the top of the stairs from the kitchen area and leads to the security office. The other, large one goes from the first floor near the holding cells to the second floor near the stairs leading to the third floor. It is this elevator that also goes up to the third floor warden's office. Do you see the big panel on the wall next to the elevator on the second floor? You will need a key to open it.
