Yup, that's exactly what I'm doing. I've even tried leaning forward and the sword just goes through the book. All my objectives have been met except for 3, the main one being 'Find Kadar and bring an end to his life'. The other two are not to kill civilians and to get out.
I am doing Normal. I followed the walkthrough also. I'm stumped

My guess:
you missed to do or whitness something.
The walkthrough says that 'Elizabeth's body is on the altar.'
Can you see it ? If not, read the walkthrough, specifically the Showdown section, and check what you missed.

yes Elizabeth's body is on the altar, kadar is by the main church entrance watching. All my objectives have been met, like I mentioned, except for those last three. If I had missed something my objectives wouldn't be ticked off right?
I'll just go back and reread the walkthrough. but I followed it so I don't know. Anyway again thanks for the help.

Do a quick-save of where you're having trouble and [EMAIL="terrydelaney@outlook.com]email[/EMAIL] the file to me. It will be in your Thief 2 folder, inside the SAVES directory (quick.sav). I'll take a peek at it and let you know.

Did you get the glowing sword from the altar in the tombs? Your normal sword won't work on the book.

What a mission. Unfortunately needed a walkthrough for many of the puzzles (namely all three gems, the death statue puzzle, getting the horn). Wasn't expecting to have to use my brain so much! Also only found 2 secrets out of 8 (geez :laff:).
A real treat!

This one's still in my Top 5 favorites of all time. Thinking about playing it again for old times' sake. Just outstanding design, story and atmosphere.

Guys, as often I'm several years late but I just finished this mission for the first time, and it is absolutely amazing !
Played on expert, I don't remember the last time I had to get a walkthrough to finish a FM, it was incredibly hard but the feeling when finished is wonderful.
The story is well written, level design is state of the art, puzzles are very good as well.
Really, congratulations, I would say this one is on my all time Top 5 !

Well don't forget to play the sequel Broken Triad. Like the saying goes you haven't seen anything yet. Seriously its just as good if not better. Its also 2 missions long. One of my favorite series of all time.
