I think you have to take the diary he is writing to get the quest.
He mailed me a little demo mission which had the SFX for the sprinklers (but no sound effect, the one you found is great BTW)...

Do you really think it is time, or would you like to hunt some more? :) No, it's not time IMO. I'd like to play through on Expert and try to get it all... although feel free and I can hold off looking at it unless I can't find it all... I think in my playthrough on Hard I had about 7150/8000 and found all 8 secrets (I pride myself on finding them all the first playthrough when possible).

Oh well, perhaps I'll things in a different order when I replay this one in a year or so (hopefully I will have forgotten enough for it to be fun by then.)
Thanks again for your efforts. :)

I cannot find the way into the attic. found 3? places, but no way to open the hatches. What do I do now? Have read over 80% of the posts and cannot find an answer.
thank you.

One question: what was the significance of the malfunctioning gaslamp? If it was stated or implied in-game, I completely missed it.
nil8hate on 16/8/2003 at 06:56
i have been everywhere upstairs (i think).
got all my gems....but cant find info on mages area....i thought i had that ticked off but i wonder is that was before i went back to a saved game....and how the heck do i open the one silver locked door upstairs across from the bedrooms?)

Yandros,
Yes, it's the (slightly altered) effect Hit Deity posted at Jason's Cheap Site Forum. I mentioned it in the credits :)
safriend,
You need to locate the vault, first. Have you read Jeffrey's note? It tells you where the entrance is and gives a clue how to get in.
Karl Stader,
It is not directly stated in the mission, but the gaslight is located next to the barred room with the ghost inside - its presence causes the gaslight to go out.
nil8hate,
The info on the mages area is in the safe in the library. You should have the key to it, by now. It's on the table in the east tower (where the easel is).
The metal door upstairs can only be opened indirectly: Go into the study nearby, turn on the lights and immediately go back to the door. A guard will come out to turn off the lights again (since he notices this when standing outside the study's windows). If you're standing next to the gaslight, you can just let the guard walk past you and run into the door before it closes. This way you can get on the inner balcony.
The way I got
to the inner balcony was by dropping down from the roof.... took 1 point of damage but was the only way once all the guards were KO'd. :ebil:
