I just finished this today and wow! What an impression Im left with!!
This is the best FM I've ever played.
It was challening, hard (needed help with some things), the gameplay was fantastic, I got scared a couple of times (Im that afraid of the dark person), sometimes I was close to giving the mission up as I didn't wanna ask for help, but in the end I had to, hehe. :cheeky:
One word: FANTASTIC, MARVELLOUS, OUTSTANDING - whoops that was three..
Unless you haven't finished it, don't read the spoiler!
PS: the changing objectives was teriffic!
Thanks Yandros for your help with the vault combination. I am now in the Dawn Mages' library. The two doors at each end of the corridor open with keys but I can't find them. Can anybody help?

I just finished this mission and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of it. I thought that it was inovative, fun and extremeley difficult.
If I may be so bold as to offfer a critique.
First off the mission had some very innovative elements. The choice of blackjack for instance was very well thought out and logical within the storyline. The use of different areas, accessible only after you have accomplished certain tasks and the need to backtrack only enhanced the illusion of being immersed in the overall story. This for me is the main reason that I love this game. I wanted to finish this mission because I wanted to. Certain things were left undone and I personally wanted to redress that. The layout of the mansion and the finding of the information required to complete the mission was not always obvious but with a little help from my friends at this forum I was eventually able to finish it. It was quite obvious that Eshaktaar and his beta testers had spent an awful long time tweaking this mission and it showed!
Secondly, I had a lot of fun playing this FM. My watch, stalk,KO strategy that I usually employ was only slightly in need of adjustment and as soon as adjustment had been made it was business as usual!
The clues that were offered in order to finish this mission were, I thought a, little dificult to follow. For instance the location of the attic key was surprising given the storyline and the clues to its whereabouts. Why was it there? It was integral to the completion of the whole mission. It wasnt obvious either that toward the end you had to do certain things to complete it. The number of scrolls that were carried also added to the confusion rather than taking away from it as should have been the case with more information. These are only examples of the many frustrations that I felt playing this mission.
Overall I reckon that Ominous Bequest deserves the highest accolades. It is quite easily one of the best FMs out there. The game play, particularly the story and of course the ending, make it a 10 in my book any day!
Thank you Eshaktaar for all your hard work, its very appreciated, keep up the good work:thumb: :thumb:

Thank you for your comments, everybody!
Steelman,
About the location of the attic key (and a bit of background story):
Remember what you had picked up immediately before you could grab the pole? That is the entire reason why the attic key is hidden: Kadar wanted to make sure that Garrett would pick up the Book of Souls, but without making the thief believe that it was part of an objective (e.g. if it were listed in the testament, like all other items needed for the ritual). The book had to be picked up by the finder's free will, not by the instruction of somebody else.
The location behind the vault is some sort of influencing area for the Book (and its prisoner). That's why you get to see Kadar's face and hear his voice when you enter. Kadar influenced Robert to lock all attics, hide the pole behind the vault and to put the Book of Souls in front of it, so the necromancer could open the door to the pole as soon as Garrett would be holding the book. Of course, Robert realized the entire plan only after Kadar had been freed.
Perhaps I should have hinted at this in Robert's last note to make it more apparent.
That's probably more than you wanted to know ;)

Ah, that makes things a little more clear.

WOW!!!
Eshaktaar, you are a DromEd GOD!!!!
I am very appreciative of all the work a fan mission author does for my thieving pleasure but you - Eshaktaar (and a few others) stand out from the croud. This mission was a delicious, imersing experience. I personally have NO complaints. I was able to figure out each and every puzzle. No I'm not saying that to brag but to point out that all the information was there if I read everything and thought it through. I was hesitant though, to go toward what I thought was the exit when I knew I still had things that didn't seem finished but when reluctantly I did I found more to explore. I love the "just when you thought it was over ..." aspect. All those little tidbits that I stored away as I played finally came into focus. Nothing unsettled - all the pieces fit.
A great fan mission author + a great group of beta testers = a GOLD HAMMER mission in my book. This is a perfect 10. :thumb:
Just made it back to the hammerite underground church but a force field is stopping me from entering. How do I turn it off? I have water arrows but no holy water. This mission is amazing it just seems to go on and on. Great use of additional objectives.
Polychromic on 20/8/2003 at 11:26
Sir Lance, don't try to go that way. Although it is funny to attract the notice of the haunts only to have the blocked by that force field. Perhaps a visit to your burrick friends is in order?
