You don't have to grab the book.
If you lean forward and swipe with your sword when the book comes close you can cut it in mid-air.

I started this mission late, and have read about 12 pages of this thread. I've gone all the way through to the point where you [SPOILER]return to the Hammerite Church. There are three Hammerite undead and one undead priest. [/SPOILER]
The problem I have now is that I can't get back into the church because of [SPOILER] of the force field in the double door doorway. They can't get me either. [/SPOILER]
I need help getting back.

[SPOILER]have you meet the burricks yet? go to the sewer exit and you'll get to the burrick fighting arena, you exit through the elevator to the burrick cages and then come back in the front door of the church.[/SPOILER]

btw this mission is really great. The architecture is really sharp and the new "blackjack" gave it an additional challenge.
