I liked how the guards noticed open doors and stuff, realistic and such. And you really have to remember to close doors when you're done and such (unlike something like Deus Ex where enemies don't even notice they're walking over dead bodies).
I agree with everyone else about the doors though. There's this one spot, I don't remember were, might've been into the courtyard, where I was trying to creep along the marble floor without alerting the guards. All of a sudden the door shut and nudged me, and I ended up making a whole lotta racket.
At first I thought the doors shut on their own so the guards wouldn't constantly be walking around closing doors. Then I realized only some doors did it, some doors didn't. I didn't realize it only applied to "outside" doors. :p
Lol, I'll second daveodeth's umm "curse" there. I hope you lose every left sock Eshaktaar. ;) But I guess I must thank you for the... less of a surprise in vault If I was greeted with a "LOUD explosion" I just might've stopped playing right there.

Maybe it's just my love for anything that lets my headphones rumble, but I wouldn't have minded an explosion. Although, the replacement makes me jump to this day, and that probably means the explosion would've done the same. Except I would've screamed bloody murder. Wait, if that mask was whispering, then the explosion would've . . . :wot: . . . on second thought, maybe the replacement was a good idea. In case there's an actual problem here, I don't want my neighbors desensitized to my middle of the night blood curdling screams.

Hmmm, I spotted another auto-close door in the mansion when I went on another rampage. The one leading into the cathedral, although I'm guessing you wanted a nice opening door type reveal of the final scene. I played this time through trying to do everything I knew of, (still only got 3 secrets, lol,) and now I remember why the ending left me wanting to gulp speed potions to get the hell out of there. Kadar is one twisted bastard, he just had to get with his great-granddaughter. She was undead to boot :eww: . . . he really should've tried counseling. Maybe some anti-psychotics?

Iam playing ominous bequest, too. I only need the three Jewels. Where can I find them?

hey, yeah.. I know this is a late post to an old thread, but I hadn't played Thief in months and got a craving, I noticed v3 was recently released, so I played it and am quite impressed. Thanks for a great FM!
By the way, I don't know if anyone else has actually answered you yet, but yes I think I DO have a sense of the dramatic. ;-)
I just finished the game last night.
What's there to say that hasn't already been said, except:
from your disturbed mind? Very disturbed.
They say the line is thin between genius and madness, and this mission was genius, probably madness, most likely both.
This wasn't just the best fm I have played, nor just the best thief mission, it was the best gaming experience I ever had.
I think it was great not having it split up. So many missions end before you really get into them; this went on and on, but in a compelling way, a real 'page turner'.
If it had been split up, it would have been an ordinary mansion mission, followed by an ordinary haunt mission. Well, not quite ordinary, but certainly not too unusual. But to have it all in one, it gave the mission so many dimensions, the story twists had more impact; it was overwhelming, surprise after surprise.
The closing doors annoyed me, but because it seemed wrong. With your explaination, I feel it was a good idea. Maybe a small notice beside the door informing the staff about the closing mechanisms would have made them more acceptable.
I found only one logical mistake:
if the hammers could only come in by the east entrance, why did noone have a key? Why was there no key in the entire church? Were they all trapped in there?
And why did the main bad guy have one?
Maybe if the key had been in the safe-like area usually behind the alter where the chalice is kept, and Kadar had opened it to get something he needed to perform the ritual, that would have been more logical. More heavily guarded, it would have been impossible to get at until the book had been destroyed.
Also, I thought it would have been nice if
the ghost that helps you in the mage temple had walked without making any noise. Sometimes no noise is creepier.
Eshaktaar, I hadn't known about a sequel either.
If you need beta testers, I would be willing to help.
Should you need help translating, I could assist there aswell. I speak both english and german fluently and worked part time as a translator of technical manuals during my time in college.
