Let me add my praise for this mission - really excellent. In fact there were two moments where I felt almost like the mission was being written around me:
By the way, I don't know if anyone else has actually answered you yet, but yes I think I DO have a sense of the dramatic. ;-)
Me too... it literally made me burst out laughing after the tension of the previous 10 minutes. I was just thinking to myself "damn I'm cool"! And...
reading about the woman taking her own life, then crawling into the sealed room and JUST realising what the rope sounds were when... *shiver*
Perfect timing, very reminiscent of
realising what the nursery key was in T7C.
It's fantastic that after all these years, Thief still has the ability to frighten the bejeezus out of me. Thanks Eshaktaar. :thumb:

Ha, I'm late. I've been away for a while without any Internet access and I just wanted to say thanks for your comments!
As you might know, I decided to split up Unholy Alliance into two missions, but they'll be released at the same time as an FM with two acts.
There's always the problem of revealing too much of the background story at once (which often leads to a great number of long readables), but since it can be spread among two missions now, I think it won't stop the playing flow as much.

from your disturbed mind? Very disturbed.
Just wait until you play the sequel :ebil:

just to say that for me this is an awesome mission.
I've played only 3 times (cause i'm soo busy with HoC) and i'm stuck as a car crashed on a wall.
Hope to be your Padawan - Master Eshaktaar
My next level (the sequel of "A long way up") i want it will be very similar to your Amazing 'Ominous Bequest '!:thumb:

I'm slighting into the mission: in the mages tomb.
Okay, actually, it was a few months since then. Around that time i lost interest. But I'm going to go finish it now.
"The Definatly Dead Brother (Renault, I think it was?)

Oh, yes. Yes, I'm back. After a bazillion year hiatus. No hard feelings.

I am playing on HARD.
Almost finish of mission. But portcullis in sewers still closed and I cant imagine what event should open it.:tsktsk: Walkthrough nothing said about it as if portcullis not exists.
And burric's stables portcullis also closed. I am stuck.
Help please!
BTW Great mission!
Eshaktaar on 30/4/2004 at 10:11
The portcullis in the sewers only opens when all objectives have been completed (with the expection of "don't kill innocents" and "find another way out"). Garrett will make a comment when he's ready to leave.
Dracip on 30/4/2004 at 11:54
So that's what does it.
I went down there so often, only to find it always closed. I couldn't find out how to open it, and after checking yet again, an act of desperation not being able to get any further, I found it open.
That is a very game reality illogical reason for it to open and doesn't fit in with the rest of the otherwise excellent fm.
Eshaktaar on 30/4/2004 at 12:08
Actually, considering what happens afterwards, it is logical.
Big spoiler ahead:
Robert Farrington is the one who's controlling the portcullis, and he doesn't want Garrett to "exit" until the thief's got everything else done.
Dracip on 3/5/2004 at 06:17
I never thought of that...
Now my only complaint is that is wasn't made clear enough for slow people like myself :).
TheNightTerror on 3/5/2004 at 19:53
LOL! I never noticed there was a pr-pot-----portcullis there. I usually only ever went down there to turn the holy water back on so I could get my sponge holy.
Eshaktaar, I gotta say again that I ADORE this mission!!! Normally I hardly ever play on Expert, I'm a bit of a chicken, but I went through and properly ghosted Ominous Bequest. It was so damn hard putting the makeshift blackjack away, though. :( But how freaked out I ended up playing it was worth it. :)
I can't remember which thread mentioned it but I think I read somewhere that somebody ghosted the mission, but the stats at the end said that there were bodies discovered. Happened to me too, and I don't know if there's much point in mentioning it, but I think I thought of a reason or two. It could be either Kadar noticing all his dear haunt friends are dead, or Kadar freaking out when the book was destroyed. It could be the latter, since most of the time multiple haunts drop near him, and he'd be able to see more than one body.
This is a really stupid question but do you remember where you got the sound effect that plays when the ghost in the attic disappears? For some reason every time I play it I seem to recognize the sound from somewhere, but I can't figure out where. Now I'm going to cease my ramblings and go run off and see if Thief Gold got here today. :cheeky:
