When you come from the family tomb and enter the corridor with the three skulls, look at the dead guy relief to you left. There is a small button in the frame, top right corner.
Ah, now I know where that elusive bastard is. Loaded an old save file to check it out, so next time I play the mission I can say now I've only missed under 1,000 loot.
And, even though I've said it a thousand times might as well give you an obligatory :thumb::thumb::thumb: for this mission. Which I'm addicted to beyond belief, I didn't realize how bad I was until when I got homesick on a road trip I played it through, ghosting, no less, so I could do wind down enough to get some sleep.

Thanks! :) Interesting to know that my FM can be used as a "sedative", too. As long as you don't fall asleep while playing it ;)

This mission is a great prequel to Thief 2. I'm putting it to my CD FM collection as a mission that I MUST play before playing T2 itself. Great work, taffer.

No way I can fall asleep during any mission which involves
faces flying out of nowhere, especially when there's a distinct risk of elbowing your sleeping best friend in the face.:joke: I think it's just because I've played the mission so many times, and know it so well, it's kind of like a second home for me.
I have decided you had a very good set of beta-testers. One of my more recent rampages involved trying to break the mission. Since I know the shopping lists I know all the things I need, so I went through and got everything I needed without triggering the objectives requesting them, to see if misplaced Garrett quips or something popped up. Out of all of them, only 1 made an objective uncompleteable.
If I didn't read the Captain's letter, the objective to help Benny never showed up, so when I dropped it in the locker I never got credit for it, and couldn't pick it up again to read it. Other than that . . . everything worked fine. Hell, even when I went and dodged dodged the Beta chamber door, it didn't break the mission. The one objective never appeared but that was it. Garrett left with all the gems, the talisman, (which the crayman mysteriously pulled out of his ass when I was above Beta chamber) and the Book of Souls. Bet his fence had a heart attack when he showed up.One thing I was a bit curious about,
there were the 3 mages who went to battle Kadar, right? And in the mage's quarters, the fello wrote about how he could sense the other mages still around? Where's the 3rd? We've got the scribe outside of Beta chamber, the owner of the sword in Alpha chamber, but I haven't figured out where the 3rd is.I'm not obsessed, I swear!

Yes, the betatesters were a great team and very good at finding bugs and oddities. Here are a few things the player could do in the earlier beta versions:
When performing the ritual in the beta chamber, you could grab the rotating Kadar image out of the air and throw him into the lava where he'd continue rotating. Kinda took the tension out of that scene ;)
You could throw a flashbomb at Az'Achiel the ghost scribe and prevent him from opening the door to his chamber for you. Mission broken.
About your question...
You don't get to see the third mage, but he's mentioned several times in books: He was the ghost who appeared to Edward Farrington and tried to warn him not to touch the Talisman of Life.
Fallen+Keeper on 27/5/2004 at 15:00
Holy crap, I didn't see those things. Gonna to replay the mission.
TheNightTerror on 28/5/2004 at 05:03
LOL! That must have been interesting throwing him in the lava. I actually tried to kill the ghost scribe, so it's a good thing they spotted that. And now I know for sure that I haven't missed the final scribe anywhere.:)I can't help but wonder, do you still have an old alpha or beta copy of the mission lying around your hard drive somewhere? :ebil: It'd be really cool to try it out, see how much harder it was before and all that. Not a big deal, though, I'm just curious.
*scurries off to play Ominous Bequest for the millionth time*

Fantastic mission. I mean, just...wow. Everything is just done so well. I mean really, its got everything.
I only have one problem with the whole mission...
Who has holy water PIPED into thier church? Do you understand how holy water works? I don't think you can just have it coming in through the city water main! :cheeky:
Eshaktaar on 16/6/2004 at 10:53
Psst, don't tell anybody, but holy water is nothing more than distilled water. The Hammers just call it holy ;)
