Yeah... I got the Talisman of Life a long time ago, as well as the new sword.
1: I just haven't figured out where to blow the horn...
2: ...and what to do in the room with the 5 tombs and the empty holy water font with the "rising sun" thing above it. ...the one with the plaques on each one that says, "Somebody Farrington", "Somebody-else Farrington"...

There's nothing of interest around the tombs just yet.
As for the horn, I believe there's a clue in the book you found in the vault. Or maybe it was in the letter referring to the horn. Think of the mages' symbol.
If you want to know exactly where it is, look around in the area where Farrington sent his burricks to kill you.

Not only that, but that face made a "ding" sound when you whack it with your sword, so I "knew" that I had to open it somehow. Not only THAT, but there was an empty holy water font under it, so I figuerd the sponge went in there..., then maybe I had to blow the horn.[/SPOILER]
Well, when I beat the mission I understood it's real purpose.
Anyway, Ominous Bequest is a great mission, Eshaktaar. :thumb: It's loaded to the brim with things to do and takes a good long time (pretty much all day) to beat on Normal. The only thing I 'didn't' like about it was how it was so heavily intertwined with satanism, but I guess that's the way you go about...

I've ridden both elevators down, shot a water arrow at the window that shows a baby and a fire arrow that shows death but still nothing has happened, no ladder has appeared to go into the vault
any ideas anyone?

Where are you looking for the ladder? Go the top with the elevator and look at the space between the two elevators.
I think the secret door there can be forced open with 2-3 firearrows, try that if your savegame is broken somehow.

I'm not sure if you need to shoot the windows on BOTH sides because that's what I did so I won't know if one side is sufficient.
