Excellent mision, Eshaktaar.
I'm still unable to do two things at this point:
a. locate the gem Bloodtear (I'm on the roof above the attic(s)) and
b. get into the burrick arena.
What am I missing here?

a. Bloodtear is in a hole in the northern wall inside the northern attic.
b. You have to finish all other objectives first (which includes finding Bloodtear).

I meant the other gem, Sunspark - I have Bloodtear and Iceheart - for the life of me, I can't seem to find a way into the NE tower...

The crooked pole you used to open the attic opens another ceiling trapdoor in the bedroom next to the boarded-up door. Climb up and look for a switch behind a barrel. This opens a secret panel in the bedroom which allows you to access Elizabeth's room. From there you can get to the NE tower. Have some water ready.

I think I'm seriously stuck...
[SPOILER]Have just left Riddler's crypt & going to get the sword - but, back in the church, the sponge won't interact with the fountains. I used the priest's holy water against the haunt at the necromancer's study. I've also switched the fountains to holy water (in the sewers, where I accidentally dropped the sponge in the sewer water - thought it was holy! - so the sponge is already wet).How can I get the sword now?[/SPOILER]
I know I've come to it late, but this is a brilliant FM. Please don't tell me I have to go back to the sewer stage...

nicked is spot on. To expand - when you frob the fountain you get a holy water arrow. Shoot the sponge with it.
