Poke around in the general area and you'll find it. Unless it finds you first. You'll also find out what the corpse is for...

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

About 5 years after its initial release it's time for an updated version of Ominous Bequest. Since Broken Triad will continue where Ominous Bequest ended, Yandros suggested to me to re-release the mission with improved visuals. So here's an excuse to replay the prequel if you don't remember the story too well. :D
Thank you. This was one of the first FMs I ever played, and it really has stood the test of time. Great job!
My one complaint, and it is
very minor, is that you did not "fix" the mission to allow it to be fully ghosted according to the (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=30310) official ghost rules.
There are two spots which bust ghosting of the mission. The first is when you have to
cut a wire (property damage), and the second is when you have to
blow a horn, alerting nearby AIs.
Unfortunately I do not see an easy fix. Making the objectives more explicit would spoil the fun of figuring out what to do. The only other choice I see would be to provide alternative approaches. (For example,
putting out the furnace, could turn off the security (and other electrical devices) for a period of time until someone relit it. Or
blowing the horn before reading the trigger to relase the burricks could open the hatch without alerting them. And I have no idea how difficult it would be to effect those type of changes.
In any event, ghosting isn't every thing. This is a great mission without it. :thumb:

I'm close to the end of this mission, and I have to say it's unbelievable. It's got everything -- a good old mansion loot quest, creepy things in the basement, lots of secrets and hidden passages, and Benny. Beautifully done. :thumb:
Edit: Having said all that, however, I'm now dismayed that completing the mission is contingent upon making a very difficult jump, which doesn't seem quite true to the spirit of Thief. Garret isn't Lara Croft. He's not really a jumper. So I may not be able to complete the mission, which is a shame, because other than this one gripe, it really is damned good.

Which jump is really difficult? And based on your description of the mission, I wouldn't be too sure you're "close to the end". This mission keeps surprising you when you think you're done.

Oiks! It took me many tries, but I finally did it. You're right, this is nowhere near the end. :o It was just a loot detour after the Riddler's Room.
I was hoping that the Acme Spinning Zombie Head would be useful against all those haunts in the Cathedral, but the ratbag was a turncoat! Ha ha ha. Joke's on me. :tsktsk: I'm going to have to reload an earlier save and try some other tactic. I'm sure the Holy Water Sponge will come in handy, but I can't see how, exactly.
Any hints on reaching the book? I'm up on the beams, on one of the small bits that extend into the circle, but try as I might I can't get the book. I'm right at the edge, on the verge of falling off (I have, several times, in fact) but leaning out isn't enough. Is there something else I have to do?
.....Ahhhh. I forgot about that, got scared off by the haunt and left it for later.
Wow. Fantastic mission. I only got 7020 loot, and six secrets, but still, feels good to finish it.

If you found the new sword, you should be able to hit the book when you're standing at the edge of the southern part of the ring, even without leaning. When the book's side is facing you, it's close enough for a sword strike. Your normal sword does nothing, though.

Yes, thanks. I shouldn't play so late at night -- I get stupid and miss obvious things. But I was so engrossed in this mission I couldn't stop playing.
Again, fantastic job, and now I'm into the second mission.

Hey guys. I'm playing on expert and pretty much completed every objectives except finding the sword that can destroy the book. I'm suppose to make the sponge holy by using the fountain in front of the church. Where is that fountain? Is it the one in the central garden next to the captain's quarter? There's still a locked double door (not the crypt one) in the basement church that I can't figure out how to open.
