Wow, I am LOVING this mission! I believe I didn't get the chance to play it for Thief 1. I'm so glad it was remade for Thief 2.
What's especially cool about this mission is how the plot is conveyed even without readables... somehow I understood the gist of what was going on before I started finding the books. Just enough is conveyed in the briefing and such that I was able to intuitively extrapolate, so it felt like a real living place. Good private guards protecting their posts, Hammers turning against them... it's neat to be on the side of the guards for once, yet not at all unbalanced. It's lovely to have the Holy Sword, but there's still a definite challenge to taking out the AI. At the same time, I'm sure I could ghost a lot of the way if I wanted to. Amazingly well planned.
I delight in the multiple AI types--friend, human foe, undead foe, non-hostile dead... around every corner is a new challenge; I can't just run around with just one weapon type in hand, I have to watch and think. Delicious. And the scripted sequences are way cool--most were just interesting or induced wariness, but one that really got me was the female zombie who greets you at the door to the catacombs. My reaction was something like "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" (sucked in breath) and I ran ALL THE WAY back up the stairs, despite my correct instinct that nothing else was going to happen. The ghostly encounters were very well executed, and got to me despite the fact that I'd read of one earlier. Oh, and kudos for the two bodies which are unfrobbable, but do nothing--I kept expecting a scenario like the room where the lights diminish to the single lit candle, and the two bodies rise from death!
I am now in the Cathedral, fairly close to the end, I think. Four guards have survived with me and saved me from one angry bastard corrupted Hammerite. Very cool. They can't help me where I am now, but it is a psychological boost somehow to know I'm not the only one alive. Gives one something to want to fight for, I guess. Good plot balance as well as game balance.
This mission simply rocks.

No offense to Tomi but i thought the blue Haunts looked silly. They just didn't fit in! Blue Haunts? Whatever next? :tsktsk: :laff:
Don't tell me... Haunts with shades! :joke:
LOL! shut up sluggsie. :laff: funny bugger.
I quite liked the blue haunts... I got so bored of the normal ones that I wanted to make something new. Don't know if they're any better... but at least they're different. Also... I did them because the ordinary haunts in Thief 2 only have hammers... Swords are MUCH cooler! :cheeky:
lol. I'm not sure if I can afford to make another FM - looks I will receive a huge bill for new longjohns very soon! :p
EDIT: Thanks Wynne. :)

The blue haunts are better, I love them. Besides how cool they are, I got a kick out of them after I remembered that Thief character test I took. My personality matched a hammer haunt's, and my first reaction was: "what? I love murdering them, and I don't own any red clothes. Hell, I only ever wear blue. This can't be right . . . "

Well done Sir. Your previous mission was very good but the surprises and other new things make this even better. :thumb: :thumb:

[SPOILER]
I always wondered about that. First time I just sneaked in real slowly expecting that something awful might happen. When the lights did go out I just hugged the walls and sneaked out. Second time I just bashed those corpses with my holy sword just to make sure. But I had no idea that those zombies regain consciousness while exiting the room. Good to know.

Actually, I was just referring to the fact that they become zombies instead of mere bodies. I'm assuming they'd pop up if you didn't chunk 'em--I chunked both at the earliest opportunity. That's how I like my zombies--extra chunky.

Great mission Tomi.
I still failed to get the objective however where I must follow the scroll with the instructions. I explored the cathedral area. Found a mask on a fountain where two of the doors would not open. I also found some 6 or more doors together which I could not open, as well as at least one door in the courtyard which is frobbable but cannot be opened. Am I missing a key or something?
