I was asking. What I really wanted to know was where/how I get into that Delerict House...however upon a hunch regarding the downstairs door of the Inn...I originally couldn't open with my Inn key and kindof thought it was a misleader type door....but I thought well maybe? Turned out it was the way. I would also like to say, that is definately a time to bring a small crate with you. It's really needed to get in and out of window plus a boost up to the barrel. ;)
Now I have found a couple more doors that I cannot even pick, up in the wall surrounding the village after disposing of a couple of those creepies. All that work for no reward... :( Darn!
Now before I go any further...I collected all the goodies downstairs but did not go upstairs due to spiders and limited arrows/no sword. Unfortunately, all that breakage finally upset the little @#$%# and one came downstairs into the room. I was prepared just in case...and was able to kill it with my arrow. Got out OK...but as I got through the window another one had come down which I didn't waste my time with. The only thing I want to know about this area before I leave to try and enter through passage in house again to the Keep, is there any REAL reason why I should go back and go upstairs in Delerict house???
Regarding "where/what happened to my friend"?...I haven't received that mission...is that for expert only or maybe that is something I might have found in Delerict house??? As to how it's done regarding finding friend...I'm afraid your a little mistaken there as well Nightstroll. ;) Apparently, it's the wood area in the confessionals...not on the ground, just to clarify a bit.
I did play this game a long time ago but don't remember how far I got or to which ver. of Thief...I did do the jump into river and climbed rocks above...but maybe that other way wasn't put in till later or I just missed seeing it then. Anyway, as I stated earlier...I have NO rope arrow(s). I've been everywhere in town and have found none. Maybe someone can clue me in as to where I might find one?
I thought the ver. # I quoted would be the clue as to the game it's associated with that I'm playing, it's...T2. :) I thought the latest versions were only made for T2 and not the earlier ones..? Sorry if I thought incorrectly.
OK...I'll be checking in again a little later to see if I received more info to my questions. Also, since the only way to get the Sword...seems to be the way through the house to get below where it's to be found...and I don't want to miss it! Since it's primary function is to aid you to help keep you in shadow! Thanks again anyway.

Upstairs in the Derelict house there are 3 little white spiders and a note that I think you have to read. You should have arrows from the same place where you got your lockpicks. There are all kinds of things in there. You have to get quite close to get them to highlight so perhaps you missed picking up some of the equipment.
You only get the objective to track down your missing friend on Expert. It appears when you read the notes in your room at the very start of the mission.

The fire eater, you do not have to go upstairs in the Derelict house to finish the mission ;) just take what is downstaires and leave
Nightwalker on 4/9/2007 at 19:17
Kittykat's correct. I just checked and you only need to go upstairs on Expert, not Normal or Hard.

However Nightie...I did look pretty carefully and got all the goods in all the cases. But since I have free run in Village now, I'll take another looksee just to double check. I really think I got all that was there in shop. :weird:
I believe there were actually four spiders...unless there was something different...not sure what I caught sight of at top of stairs but it could have been one of those little dragon things discussed in notes??? It really didn't look like a spider..but I'm sure there were four creatures...at least pretty sure. :D Glad to know at least that I don't have to go into Church again. On a second time in there after I tried to get into Weaponsmith and realizing I didn't have anything to break glass...figured I go back and get hammer from church I found to use. While in there, being quiet and retrieving hammer...I was about to leave when all of a sudden one of those creatures showed up and attacked me...tried throwing hammer at it to no avail and I got killed.. :(
Don't understand where he came from as none had been patroling that particular area before? The first time there I had tried to quietly (as one can, LOL) to drop hammer but I did do it in confessional? However also on the second visit right after that one and finding key to box, I went back to retrieve loot and was hidden enough behind door when I heard something come close...that walking on rock sound, crunch crunch. I froze in place and did not venture a look. Whatever that was did not come all the way in and I waited before leaving when I felt it was safe. I guess you know, Linda, I was holding my breath and continue doing so and will be for the rest of this game!!! Boy this is scarry and sure seems different from what I remember long ago in some ways. Maybe it's just my imagination or maybe I played Easy the first time and so it seems different...allowing for Hard mode differences?
Anyway, time to fire up game and see if I can get through tunnel down to Keep without problems I explained earlier up in this thread. I hope so, cause if I can't then I won't be able to continue till I get my main machine back from Rich. Was supposed to get it last week, but he dislocated his knee and on cruches...eeeya...one thing or another regarding this situation..so I'm stuck on my very old, dialup, Compaq that I keep for just these kinds of emergencies... :tsktsk: Bye for now and thanks again! :)
The Fire Eater on 6/9/2007 at 18:32
without problem. I just made sure I was bent over as much as possible and used my run key to get through hole. However, I was not happy about dropping so far down with no moss arrows to quiet my footfall? I double checked about rope arrow and there was none! I did re-read some threads and apparently there is supposed to be one later on in a chest in the Keep. I didn't make a copy of that instruction and will need to go back and do it when done here.
Now to a new question. On reading some of those old theads something has me confused again as well. It basicaly said, to use a ladder down near girl in cage to get out of here after the jail secret. Well that particular ladder is right near the one you climb up to leave the room where sword is...just takes you back down to the original pathways you went through...I don't see any value in that?
The situation is however, I went around that area upstairs...through kitchen and around to where there is a guard standing close to doorway and a zombie is in a cage next to him on my left. I picked the key from the guard (Tower key) and assume I'm really supposed to go straight ahead to continue game...correct? Already put the other guy patroling out with a gas arrow from below before climbing up ladder..seemed easier way. Anyway am disappointed in sword...thought is was the kind that made you in shadow while carrying it...and/or it would not shine from light sources...well it really does neither...ohh if your are in shadow then the sword doesn't light you up and it doesn't shine...but again that is only when you are in dark shadow...hmmm :p I'm guessing that after I use Tower key, I'll eventally find myself in this glade area? I believe that's the area in general where I'm supposed to be able to find the chest with rope arrow and some loot, and find my way to lava/Lords rooms.
Anything here that I need some guidance about as far as my thinking goes? Is there any reason for me to go back downstairs for? I've covered all the areas down there as my map is all filled in...and my new map upstairs has started showing my new areas, etc. so I think I'm on the right track. :D
Thanks.
EDIT: Well after travelling onward...managed to get Scepter and finally found my rope arrows in training area. Took a look at room with the "Magic" stone...but since I'm playing Hard mode, I really haven't gotten either of these as a quest..but wanted to see what I might be able to do. I cannot see how to get up to that stone? I do have one of the ladders but can't see how it would help there since the way those boards (scaffols?) are arranged and the distances..and apparently no place up near stone to rope into..so I gave that idea up as a lost cause.
But now I'm stuck! All my actual objectives are completed and as the old story goes...how do I leave? I'm in room with the four Firebowls and have put them all out. The one guard that patrolled is out from my gas mine I dropped from above. The drop alerted the goofy Mage guy that's underneath and he came out to investigate...but soon returned to his area. I did read that there's a book/switch that I need to do in order for me to get a way out...is that correct? Do I really have to go through all that business with the other room/switches, etc. just to get to the outside? Wouldn't it be possible to use my ladder in here to get me up to one of those windows to get out. I could see a little, what looked like a bridge and another one of those creepy guard guys standing out there near a torch...couldn't I just jump into the water from there and then find my way to exit gate? Isn't that possible at all??? Please advise. :)
Nightwalker on 7/9/2007 at 13:56
I don't think you can use the ladders just anywhere. There are only certain spots where there's something to "use" them on. I think they were designed to be used in the lava room in particular, though I can't say that for sure.
I don't think you want to jump into the water out front. All you need to do is get across that bridge and over to the door that you can see (I think you can see it from there.) in the far wall. That is where the mission ends, if I recall correctly. If you do the Lava room thing correctly and get up to the Lord's private rooms, you end up down on the river edge much farther away from the bridge. Then you have to climb up some tricky rocks to get to the far side and make your way down to that door.
The Fire Eater on 7/9/2007 at 18:58
so I have no other choice to get to exit gate? I'm forced to do the rock climbing thing...ugh! By the way I haven't used "spoiler" just because this is a pretty old Mod. ;)
Think just for the heck of it..see if I can prop ladder against window? If I can't, wellll I'll just reload. :D The only other thing that concerns me a bit, is the suggie to bring a crate? Why and where in the heck are you supposed to find one anyway? Haven't seen any yet in these areas? Maybe something ahead to be had, but do I really need to do this?
I'll try to carry on in the meantime and check back a little later to see if you or anyone has any additional info to offer. Ta and Good Hunting! :)
Nightwalker on 7/9/2007 at 21:27
Why do you need a crate??
The Fire Eater on 8/9/2007 at 02:48
one of the old threads, but don't ask me now which one! :D
Well the ladder idea was kindof a good idea...it did allow me to have a good look outside and I tried to toss my explosive mine out but didn't get it in the right place and not sure where it landed...heh, so I reloaded. However, it did come in handy when getting up to button over fountain..that worked real well and didn't have to try and climb or try to set rope arrows. :)
I did sortof blow it with creepy mage in room with trap door...I took some damage as I didn't get my timing good enough when I attacked..but I used my last health potion and got back about the amount I lost. Then after going down hole, I decided to scope out the area knowing that guy was on bridge and guarding the entry way across from where I had to go. Now just because, I'll put this part in spoiler to make for happy thread. :laff:
I sort of blew this part as well but it was a good idea. This means of course you don't go for a swim and miss some trinkets I guess, but that wasn't important to me...getting the drop on the guy on bridge was. So I found the easy way up and hung back till I could spot him...tried using my gas arrow but in crouched position didn't get a good enough aim and missed. He didn't alert at it. So then I tried to again toss my explosive mine and dummy me, I tossed it too far and heard it go in the water! LOL At that of course he did start to search, so I brought out a fire arrow (had several of those) and shot. When it hit, I could see his skeleton ...but now he started shooting me. I got off a second shot and that did it. I left with four health shields. Tee hee! I do have a QS before I attacked Mage in room and may try it again sometime soon, just to see if I would be able to do better, which I think I probably could.
I must say, this has been an experience all in all and fairly different from what I can remember playing long ago. Glad the updated version was available, even if I just got around to it. Worth the replay and glad my pulse has quieted down again too! :D Thanks for helpers to get me through and all the old threads too to help put some pieces together. :)
