I have a question for you: How did you get to the Keep? If you went in the usual way, you went right through the basement/jail area, which is where you need to look [SPOILER]for the sword[/SPOILER]
If you found another way in, such as jumping over the railing into the water, then I don't believe you CAn get into the basement. The only key, at least that I can recall, that opens those doors is actually in the basement, unless there's another one and I've forgotten about it.

that's whut i did i jumped in the river and pulled myself up on some lil cliffs. then i crossed the bridge [SPOILER]directly opposite fro mwhere you find a way to the city[/SPOILER]
i could not find a way into the keep any other

In the house where you found your blackjack, [SPOILER]there's a small room with a book sitting on a counter and below the counter there are cupboard doors. You need to unlock the cupboard, climb in, go through the tunnel and down that way. That's the way you're supposed to go in and you'll be able to get the sword, too. It's in a secret area, so you have to look around a bit.[/SPOILER]

finally got the sword an all that but where are those private rooms ? i have a feel that the button over the fountain has something to do with it

You're absolutely right, that button opens the doors into the area with the private rooms. There's a round building and one way to get there is to go outside, cross a stream and then into it. You can also get there from inside the main building. Inside it, there are doors opening into a room filled with lava. They would have been closed and unfrobbable before you pushed that button. Now, they'll be open. You need to get up onto the metal walkway above the lava. :)

i know theres a way out through the front door [SPOILER]and the way to the city is just opposite the bridge[/SPOILER] but i cannot find a button or lever inside the keep to open the front doors

Did you find the Master's rooms, over the lava room? There's a floor trap in there. Trigger it and look down one of the passageways below there for a way down to the river. :)
