FYI: there is an alternate way to escape from the small rock island under the wooden walkways leading to the mines. First get to the island & create a new save. Now, stand on the island facing the far wall. Turn to your left, walk to the edge of the island, shoot (1) rope arrow into the side of the beam above you close to your location. Shoot it so that you can climb up it onto the beam. That rope will be too short for you to jump onto. Now shoot the (1) arrow into the bottom of the same beam as close to your location as possible. The rope will barely be long enough for you to run and jump onto it. Jump onto the second rope & climb up a bit, then jump onto the first rope to climb back onto the beam. This method does not require you to backtrack all the way to the walkways to continue into the mines.

I need a bit of help at the beginning. I have found the small Keeper hideout and have read the thread about paying attention to the books but have found nothing. I also cannot find the key for the gate.

Thanks Cavalorn. I am still unable to find anything. I think we are talking about the same spot. There is a statue with the message "Enlighten Yourself." I see two unlit torches above the place where I entered but nothing frobbable.

There is nothing frobabble there. You need to shoot a fire arrow between the two torches to light them. ;)

I suspect that the location which you seeking
is on the 0:40 - 0:54 Though I advice to watch it from the very beginning.
