Wow!!! Absolutely superb, RobinG! I couldn't put Saturio down, I had to play until I was finished! You are now on my list of "highly respected FM makers" and Saturio sooooo gets the KFG stamp of approval.
Awesome architecture, inside and out. Very professionally done with a wonderful layout. I got the right feeling that "the whole house space is used" and the twists and turns was awesome for gameplay. In fact, it reminded me that more cramped areas are very important.
Right from the start I was sucked in and I knew this was a **quality** mission. I didn't go bj crazy... to really absorb the world. In fact, you set up the AIs so you don't want to bj most of them; awesome! And fact that some areas you couldn't help but get the guards a little riled up and searching (but not finding you if you're careful) was just superb!
The gameplay was excellent sneaky with perfect balance of difficulty. Great for a veteran thief but not sadistically difficult. Good balance on the equipment, too. I dunno if it was your design, but I had to zigzag the line of sight of the guard at the halls of the 2nd floor overlooking the stairs... which meant I was exposed in light, but not his line of sight. A true stroke of GENIUS design!! I am sOOoooo impressed!
The story was great and it moved along nicely. After reading the mother's diary, I really did want to fulfil the objective.
Wonderful music scores on the victrola (sp?); I actually sat and listened to each one play out, pretending that as a thief I was taking a short break to enjoy my "victim's" luxuries...

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif They really set the mood well, as did the ambients.
Ok, I guess I must include them but I'm straining to remember any "bad points" because they are so well covered up by the good stuff. Umm... the ambients cut in and out in a few places, um I didn't really feel so obliged to do the final Satario goal until after I read the mother's diary (story flow... no big deal), um um.... a room brush problem allowing me to hear the attic from the 2nd floor bedroom.... um... not much else!
Overall... it was just a GREAT mission. 9.5 hammers in my book.

I agree with kfgecko in many ways. But I should tell everyone ahead of time -- so that you can beat me up now -- that I gave SRH 8.5 hammers in my soon-to-be released TTLG review (it's already released on the Thief Underground site).
Basically, I agree that the building and lighting is very good -- the best I've seen, in fact. And Robin gets 10.0 hammers in that catagory. In my other three catagories of atmosphere, story, and gameplay I assigned 8.0 hammers, which is to say quite good. The atmosphere is consistent. The story is clean. The gameplay is well done. Yet for me only the terrain construction stands head and shoulders above the FM crowd.
This is a very good mission. And I highly recommend it, and I hope very much that 8.5 hammers sounds like a solid and worthy score -- which it is.

Heh -- I finally finished playing it on Expert. WHEW! That sucka is EXCELLENT, Robin. I can't wait to see what you're going to come up with next (altho right now you're probably a little sick of DromEd, eh?)
Just to let you know, if you ever need someone to alpha-test a level, keep me in mind!
For me, atmosphere is created by story and surroundings. And up until I read the mother's diary, I really didn't want to care about Saturio, I ALWAYS loved the surroundings. It's just the kind of place I could see Garrett lingering, drinking a bit of that supa-dupa wine and strolling from shadow to shadow on the balcony, admiring the paintings, as stupid guards go past, taking in the soothing guitar music wafting through the open doors of the 2nd level . . . mmm . . I'm going to go play it again.

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifOh, and Btw, if THievery UT comes out and doesn't suck -- I will LOVE YOU GUYS FOREVER. It looks so far like you're capturing the look and feel of Thief and very well at that -- only we'll be getting better FPS. Sure, our playing styles might change a bit, but WOW it's looking good. I just can't wait to start making LEVELS for Thievery! Good god, I can just imagine my current mission with multiplayer. Wow.
Oh, and btw, hehe, can you imagine how careful you're going to have to be in multiplayer not to step on mines? Hehehehehe!

I finally got around to playing this level recently (I know this is somewhat of an old thread), and I also couldn't stop playing!!! Just wanted to say this is a great mission, with possibly the best FM architecture ever for Thief 1 or 2. Fantastic visual stuff here. If anyone hasn't played this yet, it's highly recommended!

I've been playing the Saturio FM for a little while now. I think it really rocks! The guards are a little antsy, but other than that, it's great. I am having a problem, though, with the 1400 gold objective. I have 1336 and can't seem to find anything else. All the guards are out cold, except for the one with the anti-blackjack helmet. I got the wine and gold bottle in the wine cellar, in addition to the tiara in the catacombs. What am I missing?
p.s. - is there anything I can do out on the roof of the attic? I can 't seem to stay on the steep slope!

It's been a while since I've played this one, so I'm not too reliable on details. But you're right -- this one is awesome. It's still one of my favorites. The acoustic guitar pieces were excellent -- RobinG reminds me Steve Hackett. <IMG SRC="thumb.gif" border="0">
I usually just fall off the roof, so I stay away. ;)

Thanks for the info, but I already found the engagement ring. It must be something else that I'm overlooking....
gothamtaffer on 26/8/2001 at 18:49
I found it. There was a panel that I had missed that contained some coins and a tiara. That brought my total to 1577, so I was able to finish the mission. But now I see that the total loot was 1927! I can't imagine where the other 350 was!
Silver Sorrow on 26/8/2001 at 19:33
I never find all of the loot in a mission, anyway. ;)
