Yeah, well, it's pretty much the same for me here. I can't see how some people manage to kill those spiders with only their sword! I tried it in the beginning and had to use 3 health potions before I even reached the ladder (and spent about half an hour!).
I think it would be very, very nice if we could have a version with less spiders on normal difficulty, pretty please :)
I'm impressed by the architecture though, it really looks like in a pyramid (well the central thing that leads to the burial chamber is actually the only part of a pyramid I had a chance to look at, but that looks very similar.) ! And I'll try and keep playing, just hope those undead are less frequent than the spiders!
edit: Finally finished this mission and it was much better than I thought at the beginning! And I realized, that I could have used much more gas arrows on the spiders, because I finished having 23 left (always thinking "oh, I have to save them for later"). So my complains a very much invalid, I guess. But I used all mines, flashbombs and holywater arrows ;)

I have the same problem as Esme.
Let me declair some things downwards...

ok I admit it I'm useless :(
I've done the entrance down the big long tunnel
with lots of now dead spiders leading to the ladderI've got into the
main sloping shaft which according to the map is the bottom of everything
I've been to the top end of this
where there is a large area and the sky is visible, I assume this is the exit ?working down from here I've found a door
in the ceiling of the sloping shaft which I don't seem to be able to open
my entrance tunnel
a cave
full of again now dead spiders, a square pool of water and a shaft in the roof over the pool going straight up there's a mark on one of the walls but it doesn't frob
a room with heiroglyphs on one wall, to the right of this is a panel with more heiroglyphs
and a light switchthen there's a room full of sand dunes
and yet more dead spiders with a door buried in the dune that makes a locked noise when I try to open it, there's also a goblet in a hollow in the floorthen the tunnel continues to what looks like a door
but looking on the map it would seem to be a dead end although as I get close to it my light gem shows me to be highly visibleI've been up and down this taffin tunnel
tapping the walls, attempting to hack through doors, blowing stuff up, cycling objects in my inventory to see if they suddenly shrink when I find a hidden switch thats frobbed and generally searching for any way to the rest of the map and come up with absolutely taff all
I've finally read the tips posted in this very thread and totally failed to understand any of them
someone please put me out of my misery and give me an absolute outright spoiler for the braindead please
I have got the strange gold-piece-key near a small tomb where some treasures were. But now I'm downstairs. I can't go up.
There is one of the stone-walls that are normally breakable with the sword. This one here is not. I think it's this one where the ladder upwards is behind.
I tried to restart from an earlier level and have tried to destroy this wall from the other side. I can destroy the wall that is blocking the ladder with an fire arrow or with my torch (besides, a good idea this torch!). But I can't destroy the wall on the downside of the ladder.
How can I go up?
And I didn't find a place where I can use the key I've found. Where does it fit?
Also, the map doesn't function. DarkLoader 4.2 says that it is an automap. But there is only one page, and it is not noted where I have been or where I am actually.
I have read from a wall with hieroglyphs and that there shall be a switch that opens a chamber. But there is only a light switch that causes that the spiders will see me.
Also, I have read that I shall lit some torch. I have tried to lit all torches I've found, but no effect other than that the torch is then lighting. Nothing opens.
And I did not find any undeads here.
Esme writes that the tunnel continues to what looks like a door that he believes that it's a dead end. However I hear there (very quiet) sounds of an apparation. Also, when I go to this "death end" there is something strange - it looks like the machine is very busy when I come near to the death end. There MUST be something behind this wall that sounds metallically when I slash it with my sword. Also I have thrown my light torch to this wall and it was falling through this wall. How to open it?
Can you help me please?

Sorry, I only have a very vague recollection of what happened in this mission. But there is indeed one wall that isn't breakable.
Let's see if I understand you correctly: you went up to the part with the ramp, then went down through the hole at the right side of this area, so you ended in the water with the spiders around?
Then you have to go up again, that is right. But there should be an accessible ladder very close to this unbreakable wall.
Maybe I can load an old save and figure out where you are.
But don't light anything! You'll regret it later.
edit: for the door at the "dead end": that is one of the last places you have to visit. You need to come back later for that (as well as for the "door" between the dunes).
edit2: I went back to the mission and when you are, where I think you are, then there is the ladder not far away. The only problem I can think of is that in the new version there are more changes than only the reduced amount of spiders.
P.S. If you want, Gerhard: you can send me a PM in German - perhaps then we can work this out more easily.

After e-mailing with you I now know that there is something strange happened.
The wall I am referring is the one snowcap21 means, and behind it is the ladder that leads upwards. (I have reached the lower section by roping down and falling into the water with the many spiders.) snowcap21 says that this wall was destroyable but I can't destroy it. Also the map doesn't function, it shows always the same picture and it's not automap although DarkLoader 4.2 shows that the map should be automap. (Should it be?)
Is there another way upwards?
I am in the lower section where is the water-pool in which I fell through the shaft, and there is the room with the sand. I can't break the wall to the ladder. How can I go to the upper sections?
I have downloaded the mission on March 17th, 2007 from (
http://www.thiefmissions.com) and the readme-file says that it was released on December 31st, 2006.
My Thief 2 is not patched as I did not yet play the original Thief 2 to the end. However I have some scripts installed that were necessary for some fan-missions like lordfishkillscurse.
Hmm... I believe when I first tried this mission I could break the mentioned wall but then I was killed by a spider. Or is there another such wall with a ladder behind of it? (When I have first tried this mission I made some running start to just look what's there in the mission and came to such a section but I don't remember if it was this one, but later I started the mission really.)
Are there any other things I have forgotten?
Maybe I have to press a hidden switch before this wall is destroyable?
I play it on Normal, as usually...

I recognize there is something strange with this thread:
The thread-list says that snowcap21's answer from 20th of March, 21:12 is the last one. However my answer to it from 21st of March, 17:09 was the last one. Strange...
And now this one should be noted as the last. Let's see if it works out...

Unfortunately the problem with this mission stays.
Has had anybody the same problem?
Do I have to do something first before going downwards?

Have you tried to restart the mission? If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you should patch your game and try again.
Abert on 9/4/2007 at 02:13
Okay, like a lot of others said, way too many spiders, but, lots of gas arrows.
Anyway, I have two saved games, one I couldn't get down the ladder because of the rocks, so I went the outher route. Going that way, I have lots of loot and a key in those two nicely concealed locations. A door way up the slanted area and one near the bottom, neither of which I can open.
The other one is going down the ladder and taking care of that route.
Still a door in the sand dunes that I can't open, a nice view of the sky at the top of another ramp.
Where are the other areas? I can't find any more keys or know where to use the one key I do have.
Any nudges or walkthroughs?

At the base of one of the slanted areas there is a hole in the ground you might have overlooked. I don't remember where to find the key (I believe it is somewhere down that hole, though). When you've found it, it opens the lower door in the upper slanted area.
