At the very least, it would require a change to the .mis file, and then if it was the only thing made available for a separate download, you would have to rely on everyone zipping it into the .zip file they already have for Silent Nightmares and replacing the old .mis file in it. Not altogether an easy task for a lot of people.
If you rezipped it up in a playable package, then you will have to re-release Silent Nightmares in its entirety. If it were my mission, I wouldn't mind, but there's always the off-chance that Hipbreaker might. Decisions, decisions.

Technically the copyright doesn't even permit redistribution, so I don't even have the right to have it in my archive. As a practical matter I see no reason to distribute a mission that doesn't actually work when it would be trivial to change it so that it does work.

I managed to trace his e-mail on the usenet, so I'm sending him a mail to let him know. I hope this address is valid, though it was last used in this October.
The process of patching is not really difficult but it requires some basic DromEd knowledge (and, of course, DromEd). Any DromEder can patch it for him/herself but unfortunately, most players can't. Here's how to do it with DromEd. (Of course, the patch corrects some other subtle things in the mission but these are not that important)
Patch How-To:
0) Open the mission in DromEd
1) Type in DromEd: find_obj 785
2) Click the "Properties" button
3) "Edit" button
4) Type in a name, such as "TargetCan" (without the quotes)
5) Close the dialog and save the mission
6) Put your mission file into the Silent.zip file
7) Play!
[Edit]The address appears to be valid, so if you need to contact HipBreaker, send me a mail and I'll tell you his address (well, since it can be traced using Google, it's not really necessary...)[/Edit]

HipBreaker has just replied me and gave me permission to release the patch, so I'll be posting it to Epithumia's soon. Not today, though, because I have only a 56k modem and I don't have the time for 15 megs, so probably tomorrow... check your mail, epithumia. :)

That's great! I'll keep an eye out for it. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this for all of us, Preno! :thumb:

The key opens the door
near the gate by the treebeast.
The globe is I believe in the second floor (or possible third), I'm not sure.

Just to let you know - after obtaining a permission from the author (HipBreaker), I created a patch for Silent Nightmares FMs that fixes the rust can objective bug which made it impossible to finish the mission since it refused to tick off. Some other minor bugs were fixed, too. You can grab it from the (
http://thief1.math.uh.edu/thief/missions/) Cheap Downloads page - thanks go to Jason for hosting this! :thumb:
The changes (except for the bug fix) are nothing really major so if you've already played the FM, you probably needn't download it unless you really desperately wish to finish the mission, however, if you haven't grabbed the mission already, you might give as well it a try.
By the way, you don't have to open the gate in order to escape... :cheeky:

Thanks very much for taking the time to do this, Preno. It was nice to actually FINISH the mission, after all this time. Okay, so how do you get out if you don't open the gate?
