Reading now that several players are having a hard time finding
the switch in the Captain's quarters, I have to wonder why. I'm curious, how many of you who needed a clue to find that switch had searched the room thoroughly and just missed it? vs. didn't search much before asking?
I search everywhere and although I didnt have a problem.. going back in and having a look at it...it is very grey...and blends in to the wall a bit...when you have very low gamma this may be a problem seeing it for some...others it may b a colour issue?...other than that, its missed through just sloppy thieving I guess:cheeky:
the only switch that took me a longer while to detect was the one
in the Temple pool...took me ages ,throwing rocks and swearing...then I looked up in the alcoveI thoroughly enjoyed it BTW,very entertaining

Typically searching for hidden switches is pretty much the first thing I do when exploring new rooms - especially when the character is rather important.
But is is one of the very few that I totally missed and that required me to look up the spoilers in this thread - just like for the one in the guests room. Shame on me, since for that one there was at least a clear hint in the readables.
Just looked it up again. The problem was that you can barely see it due to low contrast - and I typically rely on my eye, rather then trying to bring each pixel into the center of the view for it to highlight. Also it seems to have a rather short frob distance.
And since I expect authors to be devils, I prefer to stand back quite a bit, so I can look deeper behind/below desks. And then it won't highlight at all.

The nicest thing about going away for a bit is coming back ... and finding an awesome new mission has come out! Thank yooooo - I know what I'll be doing tomorrow - hope it's dark and rainy :)

I'm playing on normal. I must be dumber than a rock for I can't figure out how to get the Drymian Code Book. I have studies the door with the symbols on the face, but I just don't get it.
Please just give me a complete solution.
Thanks. :tsktsk:

hint
the symbols around the face are roman numerals.
outright spoiler
the numbers indicate the position of the switches and the order of switching.

Reading now that several players are having a hard time finding
the switch in the Captain's quarters, I have to wonder why. I didn't think it was particularly well hidden, certainly not deviously so - the
desk was pulled away from the wall slightly at that end, and when I play, I make it a point to search the office/quarters important characters thoroughly because they often have secrets hidden away in them. I'm curious, how many of you who needed a clue to find that switch had searched the room thoroughly and just missed it? vs. didn't search much before asking?
Those tucked-away switches/readables ALWAYS stump me. I don't know why, but they always seem more hidden then they actually are. I should know better, since I've been playing Thief since, what, 1998?
Just finished the mission. Yandros delivers again! Love the updated water and foggy tombs. Spooky light and blurred detail did a much better job evoking atmosphere than darkness does (at least in Dromed). That
ghost was worth a hundred zombies and specters.
It's a shame the AI are so familiar to us. Is it really possible to return to those days of being apprehensive at approaching guards and monsters? Without artificial restrictions I mean? Anyway, congrats Yandros!

While new ones like the ghost were really cool, I agree with the regular/standard AI now being a bit easy. It is so easy to just hide in shawdows, jump up to make a noise, and bonk the guys as the come searching. Or wait for one to pass while being silent, and bonk from behind. Now while I simply hate AIs set to run at light speed, or ones that have super powers that do not make sense, a few AIs with un-bonkable helmets may do the trick with little fuss. With so many games having a no kill policy, I resort round knocking everyone out and then have free roaming. That become pretty difficult if some AIs have hardhats, especially if you are conserving gas arrows and mines - or you don't have any. They still take predictable routes, but at least they are not easy push overs.

I am stuck here too. Not sure what Numerals are in what order. Also, was wondering if the music was "Batman Begins" or Dark Knight Rises"?

Ignore the force-fields around the book.
They are just eye-candy.
Use a torch on the door with a face on it, through which you entered.
The 'roman numbers' are virtually impossible to spot without a torch, especially since they do not look very roman- and the 3 is hidden in shadows. :p

Thanks Gnartsch... I think I remember seeing a torch in the adjacent room.:sly: Lol! Eye Candy!:joke:
