I took the black book to the pedestal and went into the secret room to get a relic. I killed the haunt before getting the relic. The relic acts as a key, but I couldn't find anywhere to use it.
Nice FM, BTW.

@ Ricebug: Just explore the crypt a bit.
@ Shaz: I sent you a PM.

Downloaded this one but the story is too much of a downer, so I won't be playing it. I wish FM designers would try to keep the Garrett character engaging enough to actually play his missions.
I'd like to see an entirely new and more grown-up, more morally appealing Thief character, who consistently avoids killing anyone and is more interested in stealing from the rich to give to the poor. He should still be a lone wolf, but an attractive lone wolf instead of a borderline psychopath.

Are you sure you're playing the right FM? Garrett kills no one in TLLK. He's been commissioned to find out who snuffed the people in the mansion. It's an old plot, used in many FMs.
Beyond the "need to pay my rent" objective that we've seen before, what Garrett does with his cash is left to the player's imagination. He has returned treasure to its rightful owner in other FMs and has indeed helped those in need. This type of flexibility, both virtual and assumed, is one of the things that makes Thief (and its main character) so endearing.

Ricebug, I think he just read the intro and that's it -- there it mentions that Garrett thinks he killed the guy.

Great mission, beautiful architecture and sound effects but I'm having a problem understanding the story. First of all is this real or is this in Garrett's dreams, second after going to the room set up for Garrett by Brian I get bombarded with objectives to find info about a murderer and the readables in the room mention nothing about it - how does Garrett understand he has to do these things? Also when I place the application letter on the pedistal and enter Anita's room I get the objective that her ghost wants me to do something for her and I have to go to the Hall of Wisdom - how does Garrett understand he has to do that when in fact her ghost doesn't show up? Again one of your missions with a very complicated storyline as was When still....

That's a good question. We don't really know for sure. Maybe Brian's ghost came to Garrett in a dream or maybe he came to Garrett for real. Either way, Garrett has been troubled by Brian's death since it happened (though, perhaps only subconsciously), and he needs to go back to Snowever to resolve things, either in real life or in his dreams. Personally, I think it was not a dream.

Did you see the intro conversation between Garrett and Brian's ghost? Brian explains all this while talking to Garrett and in the note which you start the mission with in your inventory.

There are several written clues that lead you to the Room of Wisdom. And there are some written clues that should tell you what Anita might want you to do for her.
@ Dead Rat: Garrett doesn't kill anyone in this mission. He was present when someone died but it wasn't his fault and he feels regret about it. That's why he is going on this mission.

I watched the conversation and read the note but nothing said about a murderer. The ghost was saying some sinister forces cast away his family, out of their home in favor of the hammerites and that Garrett's job is to go there and find out what really happened. Also the note says that Brian has prepared a room where he should store all the evidence he found about the events that drove away his family. Nowhere does it say about someone killing his family. The only killing that happens is that Garrett unconsciously pushes Brian off the tower or in other way causes him to fall to his death or at least so does it say in the readme of the FM. Could you tell me where specifically does he say the things about the murderer? Probably something that I misunderstood, English isn't my main language, so I would be very grateful if you did.
