And if the mission really pushed your patience to the limit there's a button that reads quit in the menu that pops up when you hit the esc key. I recommend you to try that next time.
You are missing the point. I am not trying to belittle your efforts. I am just trying to understand why you released this FM with so many easily correctable problems! This could have been a really good FM. Instead it was disappointing because of all the errors. To take that much time and effort to make an FM and then leave in all those errors is just well such a shame. :(

But what are those objects not being resized that you talk about?
I only remember a large table you could walk through. You need to adjust the object's physical dimensions.

The black things that appears on certain doors was a mystery for me
That it what the Editor's forum is for. Just remove the "blocks vision" property from the door and optimise.

I explained why I didn't fix the stairs problems: it would have led to even more clipping issues.
It seems strange to me this could not have been resolved. You could have for instance cheated with an object lain over the stairs eg a conveyor.

I intentionally modified the values of the sound of garrett walking on gravel/sand because it would have been more difficult to make it through the mines.
But I was able to bunny hop right up behind some of the guards. It made no sense!
Everything I have said is meant to be constructive criticism. I enjoyed your FM. I am just frustrated at what it could have been.

Ticky, this was covered earlier in the thread. :o)

I am at the canyon over the spider and I can't jump from a rock to another. How to do that? I always touch the edge of the next rock, then push jump, then fall... 29 times
how to go on?
I used the same "cheat" as stingm:
ie. Jump to the ledge. You will get stuck on the edge but just move around to the opposite side. You can then jump across to the next ledge. You will once again be stuck on the edge but you can then turn around and jump back the way you have come onto the previous ledge proper. You will no longer be stuck on the edge and can proceed.

But I noticed no difficulties with the sound - AI heard and saw me, are you talking about the mines The_Dude or somewhere else, 'cos one little **** chased down a level after me having seen me knock someone out and they all heard me if I made a noise? I didn't see any black squares on doors and I didn't notice anything about objects that might need resizing.
My experience was that the AI were less aware than usual on loud surfaces such as in the mines (as the author has confirmed). You didn't notice a huge black square on the entrance to the mines area. :weird: I can't explain that.

That giant boulder is so dangerous that Garrett will perish if he approaches it on the canyon floor.
Dia on 12/11/2007 at 01:36
PD: how did you get to the canyon floor without dying first??? Every time I tried I died. :(
Sounds like alot of taffers are having different experiences with this FM and frankly I think that's interesting. Yes; there were some frustrating manuvers that took repeated attempts to accomplish, and some buggy little bugs here and there, but overall I'd still give this FM a high rating. It's obvious that it took the author some time to create it and I, for one, would definitely like to encourage Quirk to continue to build more FMs.
Quirk; maybe the other taffers who've already created FMs have a point about having your FM beta tested before it's actually released. I've never even tried to create an FM (just the thought of doing so makes my head hurt), but it seems to me that your FMs just keep getting better and better. With a little help from those with more experience your FMs could be truly astounding!!! Don't quit now! It sounds as though (from what I understood from other authors' posts in this thread) that most if not all the issues in this FM could have been resolved had you asked your questions in the Editors forum. I'd really like to see a sequel to this one, honest!

I agree with Dia's statement. It would be a shame for Quirk to quit creating these excellent FMs. One shouldn't expect all FMs to follow the same formula. This one departed from the norm and I personally found it quite challenging and fun. Wheeee, I felt young again, leaping and jumping with agility, and finding I'm still somewhat coordinated.
"The" box got in my way so it went into the canyon. It just took a couple of reloads to finish the jump to the ladder...no sweat.
On one tried jump, I fell to a ledge below. Found the cave with the skeleton, picked up some loot, read the book and left. There was no way I could find to get back on the ledge above. Rope arrows wouldn't stick in the wooden bridge overhead.
Was this an intentional halt to the game, or did I overlook something?
The last door gave me a problem.
I couldn't hear the lockpicks, nor could I see the door handle move.[/SPOILER
The stairs were frustrating, and not being able to mantle up a wall that should have been easy??
At any rate, I finished the game with minimal damage and will definitely play it again to find some of the money I missed.
Thank you for an entertaining evening.

Repeatedly fall to your doom attempting to reach that ladder near the box ledge. Sooner or later. one of two things will happen: you will either reach the ladder or safely tumble to the ground. There was also a small spider there, but I suspect it may have been a cliff-diver, too.

Have the same problem - cannot get from area
with cave and skeleton after fall from cliff.
Nice mission but I'm afraid if not possible to get from there I'll stop to play this FM - very annoying sort of:( It would be too sad if author couldn't change these things and fix bugs with new version... My opinion is that brilliant FM poisoned with bugs and redundant complexities.
Never played Tomb Raider but I hope it has more powerful leaping and mantling controls than Thief. Otherwise it is hard to understand for me how people play it - it is absolutely not fun to load/save hundred times and stuck in the wall corner whenever you move.

Ah, I understand what you mean now. I've found that before, at least, being able to get further into a table than I should.

I tend to think I'm just being super quiet. Darn! :D
I don't remember particularly but am now intrigued so will have to have a look. I think I just
frobbed the barrel and didn't quite get that far.
If I understand him correctly, Quirk isn't giving up making fan missions, just Dromed and missions for Thief. You can read about the Dark Mod (
http://www.thedarkmod.com/) here. The FAQ section explains all.
