You haven't missed much loot! Remember the cutscene at the start with the lever? You can now jump across (not too difficult) and pull it.
If you really want the missing loot you will need to go all the way round again.

I think I made a big Boob!. Is ? the lever at the end of the mission? I was talking about the loot on the canal ledges,
I have not been accross the other side of the Water fall yet:o

Gillie: Get onto the west ledge at the south end of the canal and face west. Jump across to the pillar against the north wall, then jump the next gap. Flip the lever, jump down, head out and round to the left. A new area has opened up.
You miss a bit of loot by not jumping across the waterfall, but it's not vital to the game.

3 Diamonds near the end. Above the lone Monkey on the rock

Yep, those are some of the harder ones to find. I thought most of the loot in this mission was pretty easy to find, except the Torc. Unlike RoBK, which currently has over 3000 in loot with more to add, and ALL of it's very well hidden (and therefore optional).

I had missed the Torc first time myself.
I also got it by hanging on the bottom of the ladder
I could not get up the ladder in the side room with the gate
The secret just before the Water fall I got okay run/jump

i must be really stupid - i can't even get started on this one, and i've played every tombraider there is. how do i pull the first lever?

The one you see in the first brief cutscene is pulled much later, as was sometimes done in TR (you see where you need to get to but take a long, circuitous route to get there). You need to look for a secret door near the portculli to get started.
