BTW about this switch. I took the liberty and moved him to other place, so that the blacksmith would not see the player. Previously, the switch was located inside the furnace. It seemed strange, because the switch could melt and the blacksmith could burn the hand, this also made ghosting impossible.

Yes, of course. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much for the work you did on this. I was foolishly using a walkthrough of the original version on Christine's (
http://www.southquarter.com/christine/nf5e.html) website and I couldn’t see a switch in the fire-pit so I put the flames out with a water arrow and jumped in, got burned, refused to get out and eventually died. :tsktsk:
Later when I jumped on the bookcase, I didn’t see the new switch and Garrett said “This will make a nice little bonus” even though the bookcase had not moved so I was very confused. HaHa!

Hi guys,
I'm replaying this campaign after... a long time, and I have a question. In mission five, the one with the mysterious tower, there's a locked metal door in the sewers. Going through it is not necessary to finish the FM, but I want to see what's there. In September 2003, Spiderkat asked the same question, then edited his post to announce he found the key... but he didn't have the courtesy to write down WHERE the key is. Someone else asked the question again in October the same year, but nobody replied to him. Someone asked, again, in September 2006, and as far as I can see, he too was never given an answer.
So here I am, in late December 2021, when even the campaign's original walkthrough is no longer available online, asking the same question: where is the key that opens the metal door in the sewers in mission 5? After this many years, please give me and posterity a specific, detailed and completely spoiled answer.

IIRC the key is in the water on the other side of the portcullis next to that door.

Indeed it is! Thank you!

A little late to the party but I played and finished this series for the first time over the weekend and it was quite a fun and memorable experience! It's a pleasure playing a part of Thief FM history for the first time!
I do agree it was tough to find a lot of the secrets to the point of annoyance but luckily a handy walkthrough was a nice way to assist when I got stuck on a secret for too long!
PS - Those Vampires were quite unnerving and I felt it best to ghost them as they were too strong and noisy to kill!

The Hammerite Monastery
I have all objectives completed before returning to town. All except the small weapons collection and getting the antique dagger. I'm assuming it must be in one of the two high priest rooms I don't have a key for. Can anyone tell me where that key is located?

A walkthru in Riebug's collection says that you have to steal a key (most likely a red one) from a wandering priest first. This priest usually can be found in what appears to be the area with the high priest rooms. The key will open a door in that area, marked with a red hammer upside down - a priest's quarter. Inside, there is a footlocker containing a yellow key, and that one should unlock another door in the corridor here. The weapon collection including the dagger should be behind that door.
I guess you have to find and pilfer that priest now.
